I hope I can explain it to my granddaughters when they are old enough to figure it out.. once they've acquired the full breath of the history of the past 5 decades. Our opportunities were limited, but they did exist and we squandered it with assumptions that this matter was settled, when we surely should have understood it truly wasn't.

well, shoulda woulda coulda's is not a thing that gets stuff done. We fucked up. Now it's on us to fix it.
