(38,824 posts)It removed the constitutitonal barrier for states which choose to ban abortion.
Abortion will remain legal in any state which chooses to allow it - no need to go 3 miles off-shore. (Aside from which most people in the US live at least as close to states in which abortion will remain legal than they do to the shore.

(4,075 posts)take texas or louisiana for example
if you live in texas you have to travel to new mexico. if your in east texas its could be a 600 mile drive or longer. houston to the new mexico border is 750 miles. thats like chicago to new york.
in louisiana you woulr need to travel up toward illinois

(38,824 posts)What I did say was that the Supreme Court did not ban abortion. There is a significant difference in how you address a ruling making abortion unconstitutional (this ruling did NOT make abortion unconstitutional) and how you address a ruling which allows each state to decide for itself (what this ruling did).

(38,824 posts)But the solution to a supreme court ban on abortion is very different from the solution which leaves the question of abortion up to the states. Far too many people do not understand the distinction.
An off-shore abortion ship is not a solution to a state-by-state patchwork of laws.
wants to make it illegal for a woman to go to another state that allows abortion, to go there and get one. If they find out you have done so, and someone helps you, not only will the woman be in trouble so will the person that helped you. They also want to make morning after pill and abortion pill illegal.

(38,824 posts)Barring travel for interstate commerce (i.e. to acquire services in another state) is classic dormant commerce clause. It is unconstitutional for states, as a general rule, to pass laws which discriminate in favor of (or against) their own residents in interstate commerce.

(671 posts)There are groups in Mexico, where abortion was recently legalized, but is not always available that are working to help women in the US. This offers some choice for women along the southern border. But it is less of a sure thing that Canada.
It is still a shit decision and a shit situation.
