5. This is just beginning. Wait till murder cases go to court and prosecutors try to prove
that an embryo should be considered a person. that case may be appealed up to scotus at which time they may/should rule that an embryo is OFFICIALLY not a person, therefore abortion cannot be criminalized.
Also, I would think that next week dems will introduce legislation allowing choice in this matter. Messaging and wording needs to be much better and debate more robust and honest. I would think legislation would have a chance...and if not, every congressperson will be on record. |

10. Most states already have laws on the books about fetal homicide.
38 in fact. Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Many of those were passed by states with Democratic legislatures and governors. In addition the federal government has a similar law which was passed with bipartisan support: The Unborn Victims of Violence Act of 2004 (Public Law 108-212) is a United States law that recognizes an embryo or fetus in utero as a legal victim, if they are injured or killed during the commission of any of over 60 listed federal crimes of violence. The law defines "child in utero" as "a member of the species Homo sapiens, at any stage of development, who is carried in the womb. Legal challenges to these laws have been uniformly struck down by federal and state courts. |

15. So do fetuses have legal standing? Why don't they have Social Security numbers and
get insured, or get counted on the U.S. Census, or get the standard dependency deduction on tax forms?

7. Sympathies
This Canadian is deeply, deeply sympathetic to what your SC has done to half your population. On your behalf, I am heartbroken.
I do have a question though. I did watch these past 3 justice's being vetted. I witnessed all 3 swear to not overturn Roe. Since they bare face lied on camera - can each & everyone of them be impeached for lying on their resume? Most people get fired for that act. My other thought, although it puts so many families at a high risk in the interim, perhaps this will finally light a fire in everyone's bellies to vote these despicable people out of office and finally mandate the laws that actually respect protect women's/people's rights across your nation. For now, I am reeling, appalled and offended on your behalf. How dare they!!! |

12. Has Canada codified its Supreme Court's abortion ruling into an act of Parliament?
If not, learn our lesson and do it!

13. Thank you for the kind words today,Aaeia.
We all feel so raw. Just awful. I hope it could at least go up for a vote to impeach, but we don’t have a clear majority.

17. Those justices can only be impeached
if there are enough members of the House willing to bring impeachment charges against them and enough members of the Senate willing to convict them.
Highly unlikely, but technically possible. Consider how Trump escaped being convicted by the Senate after being impeached by the House. Twice. There is as much corruption in our current Congress as there is on the Supreme Court. (They are allied with each other.) Prepare for Americans seeking residential status in Canada. |

18. Or just secede from the USA and join Canada.
If Texas Republicans can make secession a part of their platform, shouldn’t northern border states Democrats be able to do the same?
Canadians are so much nicer. |

Canada only by a river with a huge waterfall and a couple of (big) lakes.

21. No, you fucking morons. You did not "abolish" abortion.
You goddamn hypocritical monsters only abolished the ability for women in some states to get a safe, legal abortion. They'll still get them, and some will die because of it. I'm sure you sanctimonious fuckwads will celebrate that, too. A pox on the lot of you.

23. I heard on NPR this morning, OK trigger law, reverts back to
It's original 1910 anti abortion law. Only exception is for saving life of mother. Rape and incest victims forced to carry to term. Goes from misdemeanor charge to felony, for providers. I arrived at work, and didn't hear what charges women will face. Draconian, to say the least.
