She is a disgraceful human being, but the willingness of members of the right to confront a crowd pro-choice protesters and to tell them they are wrong and celebrate the overturning of Roe v. Wade explains why right wing grassroots has been so effective.

On the left, you will have folks like AOC staying in their safe spaces, preaching to the choir and perhaps even attacking Democrats who are merely left of center, but will see AOC confronting confronting racists, the way civil rights protesters in the civil rights movement took buses into the racist south to confront racists?

To win votes, you have change minds, and not just preach to people who already believe what you believe. Sometimes it seems that on the left, that we take truth and science for granted, and just blow off the efforts of right wing activists who will swarm a school board to complain about critical race theory or who are protesting vaccines. We just blow them off as crazy, and do not take them seriously.

Or, like some folks on this board, they respond that we should respond "by any means necessary," except trying to actually convince a single Republican to change their mind. Even in Blue state California, I am amazed by how right wing advocates will take over the mike at local school board meetings to spew their racist trash or complain about vaccines, and there is not a similar movement on the left or center to respond to this racist filth.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was swarmed by the media and angry pro-abortion rights protesters as she walked through a crowd of demonstrators outside the Supreme Court, just about 15 minutes after the announcement of its decision overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade abortion rights case.

“You are a traitor,” someone in the crowd yelled at Greene. “Lock her up,” another person chanted.

But Greene, celebrating the decision, smiled as her staff blocked protesters advancing at the congresswoman and escorted her to a secure location.

“I am so happy. It’s a blessing. It’s a miracle,” Greene said.

3. The Overturning of Roe v. Wade Underscores Why Ignoring Them Is a Mistake

I admit it. I am a bit of a political junkie who will watch local government meetings, and over the past years, I have been noticing how at the local grass roots level, right wingers are more than happy to show up at school boards and city council meetings to spew the latest Fox News talking point or Alex Jones conspiracy theory. For example, showing up to protest the teaching of CRT even though CRT is not taught at a school:

Or, in response to items about COVID-19 to complain that COVID is hoax. You would think that there should be any number of people who are willing to respond and explain why they are wrong, but there is nothing. No public response that climate change exist. No response that Trump really did lose.

We have yielded the floor to the crazy right for far too long. We can't just preach to the choir, march with a thousand like minded liberals, then call it a day. We need to confront and speak truth to power and perhaps more importantly call out the lies for what they are.

6. AOC Is Going to Preach to the Choir and Perhaps Attack Democrats from the Left...

...but you will never see her show up at a CPAC conference or NRA convention to confront these racists and explain why they are wrong. She will stay in her safe space preaching to people who already agree with her. In contrast, you have the right wing crazies going into local governments spewing their craziness, rather than just sticking to yelling into talk radio:

We need to expand our audience. Yes, it feels nice to march in big giant group of people who already agree with me. Heck, I've done it a couple of times. But it is much tougher to speak to a hostile crowd and try to convince them to reverse course like these right wing crazies who are arguing passionately and strenuously that vaccines contain tiny robots to track people.

We can't just ignore them. We need to confront the lies and speak the truth and not just to people who already agree with us.
