I have questions about the timing of the release of the overturning of Roe yesterday in light of ...

... the bombshells @ the J-6 hearings Thursday. Was the SCOTUS and the GOP trying to change the news cycle?

Trump, “Just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the R. Congressmen.”

It does not get more damning then that.

Not much time left to release decisions and I think they have 10 more. There probably never is a perfect day.

3. They had to issue the ruling before the end of June

and Friday is the news cycle trash day (dump all of your controversial news out on Friday and hope people don't pay much attention because it is the start of a weekend, etc).

This was the last Friday in June...

5. Just looked at the calendar

and yup - next Friday is July 1st.

I had figured they would "wait until the end" and with the way the calendar is this year, we are pretty much "at the end" in terms of "Fridays" this month.

8. They have "traditionally" ended their sessions by the end of June

although they aren't completely "gone" but will continue to work on and off during the summer to address emergency requests until they start their new session some time (traditionally) in October.

4. It would be a short-term thing because the J6 Committee will be coming back next month with MORE

and the SCOTUS will have transitioned with the retirement of one member and the swearing-in of a new member - a woman and a black one at that.

All of these things - Women's health choices, gunz, LGBTQ rights, and saving our Democracy from fascist takeovers, will be on the ballot in November, and I hope that previously-apathetic people finally start taking their state/county/municipal elections more seriously.

10. This is where "states rights" come into play

which is where LGBTQ marriage played out and where the legalization of recreational marijuana is happening now.

And that makes the state elections PARAMOUNT - something that the Democratic state party apparatuses were unprepared for.

12. Agreed. Somewhere along the way, we fell behind at the state level

But we need to reclaim states in order to push through much needed constitutional amendments. That's the only way to control these facist states.

11. The term ends in June
Sat Jun 25, 2022, 08:44 AM
Jun 2022

All remaining decisions from the present term are released in June of every year.

That schedule doesn't change.

The J6 Committee is free to schedule its hearings whenever it likes.

So, to be clear, if anyone had the ability to time these two things together, it was the J6 Committee, not the court. Everyone knows that SC decisions come down before the end of the term.

15. No, if they picked it for political reasons, they dumped it on Friday

So they could hide out from the protesters over the weekend.
But, Friday was the day Dobbs came out.
