(70,027 posts)they're on the ropes at this point. they prolly still have the old blueprints for the magdelane laundries.
might even revive their rapidly folding school systems. they're almost gone in chi, having been replaced by, sorry friends, charter schools. cps did build a lot of selective enrollment schools as well, but that didnt help average kids. for decades they were the only alternative to a shitty public school system. as soon as new schools started opening, they started closing apace.
we dont allow the big chains here, tho, there are holes in the barriers. the highest rated schools here are all charters or selective enrollment schools.
but hook up a home w the schools that are still open, and yeah, off to the races.

(19,948 posts)booted out too...after all they have a majority on the SC.
Over here, they still have the overwhelming majority of primary schools under their patronage, and despite lots of positive noises, there's very little movement to divest. In effect they've become the biggest property company in the world.

(19,948 posts)They're building a co-located national maternity hospital in Dublin next to a church owned hospital on Dublin's southside (an obscenity imo), and they wouldn't sell the land to the government, it's only leased to them for 300 years. That says everything about the attitude of the Catholic Church, IE we'll still be here to own it in 300 years, not sure about you.

(70,027 posts)the #1 reason i am glad i was born here and not there is the irish catholic church.
no doubt my sister would have been a slave in a laundry, and i'd never know my neice.
