Surprised to see Montana stand alone in a sea of red states w/out a trigger law?
Its bc MT has a right to privacy in its constitution. 50 yrs ago MT League of Women Voters led a successful effort to call for a Constitution Conv & right was enshrined there.
Impt lesson 🧵
It was 1972. BEFORE Roe. There were 100 delegates at MT Conv, 19 were women. Following footsteps of Montanas Jeanette Rankin - who nearly 50 years prior had fought for suffrage & was first woman in history elected to Congress - women in MT pushed for & secured new rights. 🧵
Right to privacy, right to a healthy environment were enshrined in MTs Constitution. (This is why MT is able to protect & guarantee access to public lands, streams).
Fifty years later, Republicans in power in MT are trying to overturn the privacy right in the Constitution🧵
LESSON FOR TODAY IS dont discount power of people banning together to fight for rights.
The women in MT who willed the Constitutional Conv into being had no power - but they came together & secured rights that stand today.
What we all do in the moment matters. Engage.

She does mention that Republicans are trying, right now, to undo that and make abortion illegal

Making special session noises to "review" all obstacles to banning abortions entirely because he's a christofascist as are a nominal portion of the legislature and all of the elected cabinet sort of offices.
If it's possible, they will be pushing for it. This is why they attacked the state supreme court first thing in 2021. They've been bullying us for quite a while, we also have others of that ilk moving in and buying up everything in sight.
