And we will have to hold Congress.
Either way, we need more Senators who will vote to end the filibuster to enshrine abortion rights into federal law.
While we are at it we need to do voting rights.
Is it possible to hold the House and make gains in the Senate?

(8,229 posts)maybe unlikely that we hold and/or gain in both chambers.

In It to Win It
(8,229 posts)about this election and every single election afterwards. We literally cannot afford to lose ground.
I made another post on a previous thread basically saying that the steps toward losing Roe started the moment Jimmy Carter lost re-election. Each lost election was a step toward overturning Roe.
Each time we can't get enough pro-choice Democrats, or even lost seats, in the Senate and House was a step toward losing Roe.
Each time we lost to Reagan, GHW Bush, W Bush, and Trump was a step toward overturning Roe. Two of these people only served 1 term. That 1 four-year term was too long. That 1 term allowed each of them to turn back 50 years of progress. That one term for each of them now equates to nearly half the Court. That happens with every issue you care about. Whoever sat out an election and they also care about abortion, they just cost themselves 50 years of progress because they sat the election just one time. That could apply to 2016, and also 2014, and also 2012, and 2010. Sitting out just one of these elections got us to this point.
Every single election counts. The one election you sit out was the pivotal election that reversed the most important thing you stood for whether that be climate change, abortion, LGBT rights, or whatever else.

(5,554 posts)Which is going to be really difficult, taming inflation while avoiding a recession will require luck and creativity. And very swift action.
Our best stroke of luck so far is Oz and Walker getting the nods for the Pubs in PA and GA.

(5,554 posts)What matters most are independents. Why? Because each indie flipping from us to them is the same as two voters worth of increased D turnout. Polls are showing us losing with unaffiliated voters. It is also showing inflation and the economy at top issues with them.

(5,293 posts)that if Mitch McConnell gets back in charge (pui pui pui) that he won't immediately nuke the filibuster AND come up with some mealy-mouthed bullshit rationale on why it's the Democrats fault, has not been paying attention the last twenty years.
So, to answer the question: we need to do both.

(15,568 posts)If Warnock and Kelly keep their seats, (NV is also close), then OH, PA and WI and maybe one other are possible pickups.
Since DiFi is not a sure vote to kill the filibuster, winning all three seats is likely required.
If we get enough votes to kill the filibuster, everything should be on the table:
Codifying Roe,
Voting rights,
Court expansion,
Passing BBB in its original form,
And so on, and so on
