The last time I was in Paris, the French people were eager to practice their English with me! If you even make the slightest effort, they are happy to help. But then they want to speak English!

Same thing when I visited China about ten years ago.
The Chinese wanted to practice their English.
I didn't really need the Chinese/English dictionary.
