Decades ago, I had a pro-life woman on a panel regarding abortion.

And I actually liked her. She put her money where her mouth was. She opened up her home to unwed mothers for free. The young women were in various stages of pregnancy and could stay for a little while after they gave birth. I repeat, for free. She took donations to give them a safe place to stay. No religion, no shame. She seemed nice.

I opened up the discussion with "Can we agree to take the term 'bastard' out of the dictionary? Would you agree every child is a legitimate child by your philosophy?" She hesitated but agreed with me. We found common ground for that.

Those actions are nice; none of them help someone who's pregnant and doesn't want to be pregnant WhiskeyGrinder Jun 2022 #1

of contraception and age appropriate sex education, but most of them also want to restrict the very things that would help reduce the number of abortions.

Sounds like you met someone who was doing her best to live her philosophy, unlike so many.

After they were kicked out because they'd done their "duty" and given birth?

Did they give up their children, knowing that their child is out there, perhaps in a foster home, perhaps being treated badly?

Or did they keep them? But if they were staying in this woman's home for free, it's unlikely that they had either the finances or the support network to actually raise the child financially, leading both the woman and the child to a difficult life full of poverty and want.

What what about the physical effects from pregnancy and birth? Carrying a child to term takes a toll on the body.

Despite the way it's being portrayed, this is ultimately not a happy story.
