Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., said at an Illinois Trump rally Saturday that the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was a "historic victory for white life."
"President Trump, on behalf of all the MAGA patriots in America, I want to thank you for the historic victory for white life in the Supreme Court yesterday," Miller said.
A spokesperson for Miller told The Associated Press the line was a "mix up of words."
"You can clearly see in the video ... she's looking at her papers and looking at her speech," Isaiah Wartman, the spokesperson, told the AP.

(90,762 posts)She looked at her speech, saw what was written, or thought she did, and said it anyway. Because the sentence made sense to her and she had no problem saying it.
Someone who didn't agree with the sentiment would have not said it.
So, let's say for one second, she did misread - she still read it. Instead of refusing to say it, or objecting to it, she said it.
Because she had no problem with what she was saying.
But the fact is, she read it just as it was written, and she had to have read it prior to actually taking the stage. So she said exactly what she meant.

(8,387 posts)So, correct me if Im wrong.
When intended to say white life, did she also plan to deny that was her intent after she said it?
In other words, why is she trying to say thats not what she meant to say, if it was what she meant to say. Why not just bask in the publicity for having said it?

(8,387 posts)The idea of a dog whistle is that it emits a signal above the frequency range of humans, but still within the range of what dogs can hear.
In other words a dog whistle is something that is heard by the intended audience, but NOT HEARD by the audience for whom it was not intended.
Saying something in plain speech, instead of using trigger phrases from the weird email mill or other references known to the intended audience, and then denying having intended to say those words, is not a dog whistle.

Yet there's another dog whistle we've been hearing about lately: a coded message communicated through words or phrases commonly understood by a particular group of people, but not by others.
The whole point of a "dog whistle" is that it is not heard by others.

(61,588 posts)But their base knows they absolutely meant to say those exact words, that is a type of dog whistle. The "hidden in plain sight" type.

(90,762 posts)You think it is because they actually did misspeak? I don't believe her. You might. We disagree.
Why did Ron Johnson deny his racist comments about BLM were not racist?
And he's not the only one to do it.
They do it because they enjoy saying things like that and then denying it their intent. They get to say it out loud and then claim innocence.

And her plans to move on to bigger and better things in Illinois have probably been tanked. She might have to move to an overwhelmingly white-majority state if she plans to move on up. Maybe she should move to Iowa or North Dakota if she wants to run for Senator.
You know, someplace where the population is at least 88 percent white.

(12,645 posts)White life is not an ooppsie for saying "Right To Life".
When you or anyone else says say it, the vocal stress is always on the "to" in that phrasing.
And it's not something to look down at your notes to say.
Lady talks about Hitler a lot. I'm guessing "White Life" comes out of her mouth naturally when she's in full screed, probably a lot more naturally than "right to life".
