Senate fails to pass breastfeeding law for 9 million working parents despite calls for flexibility amid formula shortage

A bill that would have extended breastfeeding protections at work to at least 9 million nursing parents during an ongoing formula shortage has failed to pass the U.S. Senate.

The formula shortage helped revive conversations around more breastfeeding support for parents, especially low-income people who are more likely to turn to formula because they work in jobs where they cannot safely pump and store milk, or which offer little or no paid parental leave — but it ultimately wasn’t enough to pass the PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act. The bill had been sitting in the Senate for more than a year and passed the House in October.

All about the babies until it inconveniences business. Well, "corporations are people" don't ya know. Can't curtail their rights.

Women, on the other hand--they're just breathing incubators.

Only one needs to object in order to fail to advance a bill via unanimous consent.

She objected to the bill, "arguing that it would be particularly burdensome for companies in the transportation industry to create separate accommodations for breastfeeding parents, something that could further hurt the supply chain."

and a hook for those with lesser cognitive abilities. Other than the religious rubes they manipulate, they couldn't give two shits about born or unborn humans. They simply want to make the earth Xtian in their own image. In their bizzare theology, they want to bring on the second coming and enjoy watching the rest of us get cast into Hell by mean god. That's the kind of SOBs we're dealing with. They're an existential threat to all that good and moral on earth.

Powerful groups (probably not really very many) are controlling the politics, the media, the dialog, and now the judiciary - not just in the US.

They aren't particularly religious or even ideological. They are in it for power, control, wealth.

As to their utter craven, inhumane barbarity to let women and children suffer in this manner when this legislation would assist them immensely. The stress described by the mother in the article, and its physical and emotional toll does incalculable damage to her, her immediate family and the child who the Rethuglicans piously claim to care so much about. It can and should end NOW. So let the servants of mammon who would sociopathically continue this suffering so as not to inconvenience their corporate overlords go on record and have to explain their deliberate choice to knowingly continue human suffering and then answer for it. Bet the numbers of opponents would drop dramatically. This needs passed so I’d hold votes daily till it does.

The USA is the absolute worst “developed country” in which to be a new mom. New moms and new parents get practically zero support from businesses and the government. It’s every woman for herself out there. Abysmal maternal mortality rate in our hospitals, too. Why would anyone want to have kids in this shit hole society.
