It's very well established in constitutional law that no state can bar its citizens from traveling to another state. A state can ban gambling in their own borders, but they can't stop you from flying to Las Vegas to gamble. So while some states have passed laws banning travel for the purposes of getting an abortion, those statutes are blatantly unconstitutional under a long line of non-controversial precedent.
That being the case, it seems like it would be doable for a billionaire to charter, say, a 737 to fly financially needy pregnant women from Jackson Mississippi to Chicago at 6 am one morning, allow them to get an abortion that day at a clinic that will have increased its staff to handle the inflow, and then fly back that night.
Billionaires like Bill Gates have long funded health projects in places like Africa, seems like there would be one willing to pay for flights like these.

(7,619 posts)it would seem more practical to fund flights on regular airlines. Women in need of abortion are not all in one spot at the same time.
You are not going to pack a 737 with dozens of people from the same location for abortions.

(22,340 posts)and start donating a few dollars each to make this happen
If 100,000 of us donate $10 each, that is a million dollars worth of air tickets
BTW, getting on a special "abortion charter" is a very good way to advertise you are getting an abortion. Flying commercial is more discreet - you could be flying for any of a number of reasons

(25,429 posts)Could also go through a service like NetJets, which has fractional ownership. A lot of professional athletes do that because they don't need a jet all the time. That's probably a lot more expensive, however.
