AxiosWhy it matters: The establishment grows ever weaker. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on the doorstep of the speakers office can expect to be saddled with new members who have zero loyalty or predictability.
...snip...
What we're hearing: In cycles past, leadership has attempted to get involved in some races to stiff-arm candidates they find problematic.
* But this time, House GOP leadership is highly sensitive to the political downsides of interfering: Republicans need these candidates to take back the majority and make McCarthy speaker.
* McCarthy has been careful not to alienate them, hoping his hands-off approach will help earn their trust and foster goodwill down the line.
Yes, but: Once in office, it will be hard for McCarthy to control his far-right freshmen just as he's faced difficulty wrangling Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) and Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.), who see themselves as "untouchable."

(16,925 posts)I'm NOT comfortable going into this November. All of the negative work that the Repukes have been doing, along with the negative situation of the economy do not point to a great 'swell' of support for the Dems.
A stronger 'response' to the Jan. 6 Committee revelations would be great, as well as some good economic news, but hey, too many still out there still just want to 'own the libs' and cut off their noses just to do it.
We DO really need to work to GOTV - both 'reluctant' Dems AND the 'Indies'- hopefully the hearings will convince more of them that they DO need to take part in this - their failure to do so in '16 and '20 gave us our own special "Hanging Judges" - and they MUST realize how important it is to stop the bleeding.
GET OUT THE VOTE- your COUNTRY depends on it!
