I have NEVER been political on facebook. Most of my friends from high school are hard core right wingers (I grew up in Louie Gohmert's district), and I never had the motivation or will to start arguing with them on facebook. Honestly I rarely even read facebook anymore.
But today I checked in for some reason, and just lost it. So far I've done angry rants against
1. The gun shit
2. The "pro-life" shit, and
3. The "price of gas" shit
I might set a record for the most "unfriends" today. Think I'll go get some champagne.

(51 posts)Hi Freddie,
Ive never posted here before. This is my first. I retire soon after 35 yrs banging away at a male-dominated career. A very public one. I have so many friends on FB from my career. Some are real friends. Some are guys I worked with 30 plus years ago. Most are amazing. Some I keep just so I can stay aware of what the most fringiest of the right wingers are saying. I can count on one hand the (retired) serial posters who are so far down the GOP conspiracy rabbit hole that it takes a lot energy to see their memes clog my feed every day, but I do it to remind myself of who and what is out there.
I am counting the days to retirement. I cant wait to be able to breathe. To post. Your comment spoke to me because it is exactly how I feel. At 60 I have been this career-being longer than my my non-work self. These last few years, and now these last few days, make me feel like a horse in the gate at a race track. I cant wait to feel like you, Freddie.

(4,196 posts)I started my FB account because I thought it might help with a business I started. It didn't. But it did allow me to see what people are like out there--people I used to know well but wouldn't want to have dinner with these days.
I won't unfriend anyone. I don't really care what they say to or about me. But if I can give any of them something to think about it will be worth it.
Happy retirement!

(31,626 posts)I stopped arguing with them long ago. There were 3 or 4 of us who posted on a local Magat web site, they gave me the boot just for saying that Trump is a Putin puppet.
It does no good to argue with them.
I had an opening when Oz became the Magat nominee for Senator in Pa. I asked a racist, bigoted, Trump lover who he was going to vote for, the Muslim from New Jersey or the Harley rider. He said he's not voting for Fetterman so I asked why not, because he is a Democrat.

i unfriended or blocked or hid posts from all republicon "friends" on fb a number of years ago
anyone who can see my posts is a dem
two things (offhand) lead up to that. 1. i realized it is pointless/useless trying to argue and change someone's crap ass opinion as they worship republicons
and 2. i wouldn't be "friends" with those people in real life, wouldn't call them, talk to them on the phone, or hang out with them. sure -- we knew each other when we were kids or even high school or college but we're different and ... fuck them! lol

(4,196 posts)What's interesting to me about this whole thing is that all the people who I believed in high school were pretty cool ARE actually pretty cool. It's the "popular" crowd from back then who spew their vile, hateful crap on facebook, and just assume everyone agrees with them.
That said, I'm not unfriending anyone. I don't spend enough time on fb to worry about them. If they don't like what I say, they can unfriend me.

No surprise that they're supporting a complete asshole and participating in tRump flotillas up and down the Navesink. Fuckwads all.

He thinks his vote was "stolen" because somehow he got a link to a website that supposedly shows he didn't vote in 2020 when he checked his registration before hand, got to the polls, voted and was supposedly good.
THEN he says he checked online and it showed he had NOT voted and was no longer registered.
I've sent an email to the SEC of State to see where this link is, if it exists, because I can't find it.
OF COURSE that tells my son it has to be a cover up.

(1,962 posts)I finally had enough of it myself. The bitching about the efforts to control COVID. The "stop the steal" shit. All of it. The fact that my dad was constantly winding up in Facebook Jail for pushing back on reich-wing insanity while RWNJ's were allowed to post bigotry and threats made it easier to say "Fuck this. Fuck Zuckerberg. Fuck Assbook."
I have had moments where I've considered delurking long enough to make one last post. Basically saying that anyone who voted for Drumpf in 2020 (I'll forgive the ones who voted for him in 2016 and realized they screwed up) or plans to vote Republiqan in the midterms can just unfriend me. That I don't want to hear their whining, their explanations, their excuses... I don't want any male-splaining or white-splaining or straight-splaining or cis-splaining. I don't fucking care what their reasons are. It's just this simple: Anyone continuing to vote for hatred and bigotry and destruction of human rights is no friend of mine. Especially when they can vote for the QOP's Nazi bullshit in 2022 after what they've spent six months doing to LGBTQ's.
I'm sorry. Anyone who votes for my criminalization, harassment, abuse and death is not my friend. Fuck their gas prices and fuck their guns and fuck their fee-fees.
Honestly... If I post that and half of them unfriend me? Fine. See ya. The only thing that's gonna piss me off is attempts to 'splain at me.
