The bitter irony of forced birth in the U.S.

This tweet really nails it, imo.

?t=lg4Fun-cz-361BZVLDMSvQ&s=19

Text of tweet:

Forced birth in a country with:

—No universal healthcare
—No universal childcare
—No paid family & medical leave
—One of the highest rates of maternal mortality among rich nations

This isn't about "life." It's about control.

3. Domestic Supply

"There are 1 million childless couples wanting to adopt infants from 0-3 mos old, but the domestic supply is almost non existent."

CDC report on adoption in the US, cited in Alito's leaked draft. American Women keep their infants, or terminate pregnancies. There are only so many good christian white girls crisis pregnancy centers can shame and browbeat and frighten and coerce into surrender. The international market isn't as friendly to Americans now.

They want to out breed "new comers" who have larger families. Hence, the quiverful freakshow.

6. Young mothers' plight

I've been working a short project with a bunch of blue collar working mothers in Oregon. What I've learned about their lives breaks my heart. They have it REALLY hard.

They work full time jobs paying between $12.75-$18/hour at grocery stores, nursing homes, restaurants, hotels, etc. After taxes, their take home pay is about $1400-2000/mo.

One of them pays childcare of $680/month. And you can't get into a decent rental for less than about a $1000/mo. Then they need a car, and a cellphone to work. Even at the higher rate of pay, it doesn't cover their basic living expenses.

These women work their butts off, not only full time, but picking side gigs wherever they can. Some have partners, a lot of them are divorced or separated, or just bailed on.

Adding another mouth to feed would jeopardize their very survival. A pregnant woman couldn't work all those hours, or afford to put all the kids into daycare.

Affordable housing, healthcare, and childcare would make it work for them somewhat- all opposed by the Republicans.

They are young, married, or hoping to meet someone who would make a good daddy. They cannot be expected to be nuns. But another pregnancy would literally destroy their ability to survive.

God bless all of them.
We must fight for them.

Many children having babies... Babies having babies

It is graphic, sickening and heart-breaking:

The numbers get worse for poor and black people. These are the people who will be least able to afford to travel to another jurisdiction where abortions are legal and safe. So the result will be even more pregnancy related mortality in the bracket that already has the highest rate of maternal mortality.

Let's not forget that most of these laws criminalize all procedures that could cause an abortion, regardless of the viability of the blastocyst/fetus. So women who have miscarriages will need to hope that there is no tissue in there to go septic. Women who have a blighted ovum will need to carry those failed pregnancies around till they miscarry spontaneously. These laws are being written by people (mostly men) who really don't know anything about the risks here.

It seems blasphemous for 6 people to play god.

not control.

The misogyny knows no bounds.

And make no mistake, those of us who have produced a child are further degraded by this ruling. As our personal choice to produce and deliver a child is no longer our gift of love, but what is demanded of us, the livestock. Without rights.

Furthermore, my sheep are allowed abortions, to save their life and health, so we are not even as important as livestock.
