I can "retire" anywhere. Buy a cheap house or trailer etc Share with 3 or 3 other "retiries".
What about setting up a "religious" type compound?
No limits for number of tenants surely.
Perhaps we only need 100,000 others?
I know there will be some 3 month residency limit to vote but it could be done.
GoFundMe? Not for me but perhaps some others.
We need senators.

(32,083 posts)I dare suggest adding South Carolina into the mix, as well. It's smaller (5.2 million) and already has pockets of "blue." Lots of retirees and other transplants from the Northeast have been coming down here, Mostly from NY and PA. Housing is cheap. Taxes are low. Far fewer hurricanes and tornadoes than Florida. It's only "bright red" because of gerrymandering. Our current governor won by only an 8% margin, and he was an incumbent, sort of. (He took over from that Haley twit.) I don't know how this translates into numbers, but don't think it would be huge.
North Carolina and Georgia are already on their way. They don't need a whole lot of help to tip the balance there.

(90,766 posts)Otherwise, your sense of community will be lacking. Your ability to find an escape from all the right-wing ignorance will be limited. Your mental health will suffer without having like-minded people to vent with, talk to, and share your day.
Living around a bunch of right-wingers can be very stressful.
You'll find a lower COL and housing at better prices, especially in small towns in red states in the South, but you'll also find more stress.
I find living around them to be stressful. It can wear you down.
Some people can get along with them. Bully for them. Being cordial doesn't change the stress factor of them constantly espousing their views and expecting you to either agree with them or bow down to their thinking.
They all have guns around here and they all love to carry them and show them off.
And they say stupid shit like "The Clinton body count is still happening".
Just saying it can be stressful. Be prepared.

(31,388 posts)We're close. We have a Dem governor and a good chance of replacing Burr with a Dem.
The Triangle area of Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill is heavily Dem. Asheville is Dem, Charlotte area is Dem. Even the Wilmington area is trending purple/Dem.
