Janan Ganesh: The trend of events is not towards strongmen but towards ungovernability.

Applegrove: The right doesn't have any legislation or anything they want to make better. If we all become ungovernable the rich right wing elites win.

(130,459 posts)It's gotten to the point where the slave states are trying to prevent women from traveling outside the state to get abortions, and the free states are telling them to fuck right off - refusing to provide information, extradite anybody, or otherwise cooperate in any way.
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

(1,505 posts)anarchy the natural conclusion to people being pushed to the brink ? I find that as more and more good people feel that they are being marginalized, trivialized, intimidated and bullied, and excluded or dismissed that they will respond - eventually - with so much pent up frustration and fury that they can no longer contain the rage. At that point, they feel that there is nothing left to lose. How much insanity can one person tolerate before they find like-minded bretheren and plan to rebel ?
I feel like I am living in a powder keg any more. And I've developed a strong aversion to matches.

(1,505 posts)Even where I live, in the Great Pacific Northwest, we have people so delusional, it boggles the mind.
I have a small Ukrainian flag attached to my sunvisor (on the passenger side). Some man, sitting next to me at the stop light lost his mind over this and verbally harassed me, then followed me for 15 miles, trying to intimidate me and run me off the road. It was terrifying. I don't want to live in fear, but this incident has stayed with me for weeks, jacking my anxiety into the stratosphere. I have tried to put the event out of my mind, but I find myself looking in the rearview mirror far more than I ever did before.

I agree, with the lawlessness of Trump and hypocrisy of the Supreme Court, this country is on its way to become ungovernable.
