'Too much mayo on a sandwich': 1 dead, 1 in surgery after being shot by customer

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating a shooting that has left one woman dead and another in surgery.

The reason for the shooting? Too much mayonnaise on a sandwich, police said.

APD responded to a Circle K gas station at 74 Northside Drive Southwest to a person shot call just after 6:30 p.m. When they arrived, the learned two women had been shot after a dispute about the amount of mayonnaise on a Subway sandwich.

“It just breaks my heart, to know that someone has the audacity to point a weapon, and shoot someone for as little as too much mayonnaise on a sandwich,” said Willie Glenn.

Glenn is the co-owner of that Subway location on Northside Drive in downtown Atlanta.

He told Channel 2?s Larry Spruill he wouldn’t release the identities of the employees, because he’s still waiting for family members to be informed, but said both were young women who just started at the location about three weeks ago.

“They were just model employees,” Glenn said.

Interim Chief Of Police Darin Schierbaum said arguments are the majority cause of homicides in 2022.

This was likely done with a handgun. Which goes back to some arguments I made before that the laser focus on certain types of rifles isn't going to get us very far in terms of reducing overall gun deaths. Whatever we do also has to have some affect on handguns too. Now, I am not smart enough to know what exactly should be done, but whatever it is, it also has to take into account that handguns are the primary weapon used in most gun deaths.

since the republicans made it so easy to get a gun more people believe it is easiest to use a gun.

The respect and care that should be given a firearm needs to be taught. It should start before you even get the firearm. But that is no longer as you can see easily by all the family Christmas photos of mom, dad and the kids posing with their assault rifles next to the baby Jesus.

BUT the military grade rifles are the choice for mass shootings (+- 2% of shootings). Mass shootings get coverage. Making a change to availability of those is low hanging fruit because it's in-your-face-violence.

I'll take low hanging fruit.

That said, effective violence prevention requires making the available guns less lethal. Regulate lethality, ie rate of fire and capacity. Stop the sales of semi auto guns of all kinds and all interchangeable magazines, period.

If you can't defend yourself with 6 rounds of .44 magnum or .357 magnum you can't use a gun.

Our POS governor allowed a free for all. More guns =more deaths.
We need stricter gun laws and requirements to maintain a gun. Perhaps people would exercise more caution. Require licensing, training that needs to be renewed yearly. Training should also include dispute de-escalation without use of a fire arm.

in three days, changes its gun laws to no permit, or it's OK to conceal carry ... I can't remember. Just know I don't want to be out in public too much these days.

It is a serious problem that gets pushed aside when mass shootings with a semi automatic is involved. We have a serious gun problem no matter what type and size of the guns.

If the guy didn't have a gun he probably would have yelled a lot or punched someone. Instead, at least one person is dead.

This is the republican utopia.

“We need individuals to talk out their disputes, walk away and do not pick up guns. We can take down drug operations that breed violent crime, we can dismantle gang organizations that breed violent crime, we can stop robbery crews that breed violent crime, we cannot stop someone who is mad because there is too much mayonnaise on their sandwich.”

Such a pathetic, unnecessary horror show we're living in.

Glenn said one of the employee's children was inside the store when the shooting started.

"One of the young ladies who was killed today, her son was in the store. She had a young son that had to witness all of this," he said.

Glenn said the manager on duty returned fire at the suspect, but wasn't able to hit him.

"I don't know what the world is coming to especially with our youth. They seem to be so hot headed," he said. "Everybody wants to carry a gun. Everybody wants to scare somebody wit ha gun. It's scary out here."

I was so focused on the child witnessing the mother's death that I missed the mention of the suspect being male. A young male. I was actually really curious if it might be a woman because it seems violence is on the rise with young women using guns.
