(2,343 posts)I absolutely hate wrestling and blame the downfall of the country on wrestling and "reality tv"/ singing contest shows.
Maybe I'll hold my nose and support this guy.

(3,234 posts)which is very staunchly Republican.
There are MANY wrestling companies and their workers are very much working class people.
There's a huge push for unionization happening right now and AEW who is WWE's big competitor and only a few years old is very worker friendly. They are owned by the Khan family who also owns the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Ring of Honor (ROH) wrestling company along with English Premier League soccer club Fulheim.
The family is very progressive and Tony Khan, has debated about running for Congress as a Democrat.
Essentially they are the very opposite of WWE.
CM Punk is a Socialist BTW and very left wing. He is very much involved in grassroots activism and is straight edge.
The politics of WWE are a big reason why he left and he only juist returned to wrestling after nearly 7 years off because AEW represents his standards & values.

(2,343 posts)I realized after I made my post that I sounded like an a**hole. Sorry about that. I shouldn't crap on things other people find enjoyable.
It's good that he took a stand and very admirable, because it could have cost him his career.

(32,079 posts)He's a good Chicago guy. I'm not a pro wrestling fan, but I know him from his fandom of some of the local sports teams, for which he often adds his voice to their promotions for things like Pride Month, and and the various "History" months. Thanks for speaking up again, Phil!
