Welp. We don't have to wonder why there are so many moments in history that countries ruled in a such a way that brought misery and hardship on people. We're seeing that happen in real time. The long game is very evident. The conservative leaning Supreme Court is dismantling the federal government. They're putting the power in the hands of the governors in each state. It's why De Santis in Florida has been so forceful, trying to turn Florida into a solid red state. De Santis knew the plan. And they have used the culture wars to help them blindside the independents.
Hopefully, they have overreached. Hopefully they'll get what's coming to them in November. Meanwhile, we should not rely on an election to take a stand against THIS Court. The Roberts Court went rogue. We should not give them a pass for upturning precedent. It matters. Judges, in court cases, weigh in on whether a process was fair. Fairness was no where in the Roberts Court. They are following a right-wing agenda. The one I described above. They are making states their strongholds of Conservative right-wing society.
Has anyone stopped to think what this means in the long run? If the Roberts Court succeeds, eventually, the Supreme Court will be obsolete. No united states, no need for a Supreme Court. I say we take that into consideration when we think about respecting the decisions of a Court, that really doesn't see a future for itself.

(115,674 posts)I don't disagree that the Roberts Court (no apostrophe) is corrupt and hopelessly partisan, but given the existing Constitutional structure, how would you suggest doing away with it?

(46,700 posts)And, seriously, as long as it's legal, is it really extreme? Of course not. It's just that Democrats have always been hesitant to cross that line. I am hearten that Biden is saying all the right things. Executive privilege and ensuring a woman's right to travel across state lines to go camping.
The point is, these are extreme times. If we really understand where this is headed, then we have to accept that there is no reason to keep our gun powder dry.
On edit, because I know there are idiots out there that love to take things out of context, "keeping our gun powder dry" is an expression. Holding back is something Democrats have been known to do. Maybe, if Manchin and Sinema recognize the extent of the dismantling that is about to occur, maybe they'll realize that they've been used as useful idiots.

(8,387 posts)When is she introducing Articles of Impeachment in the House?
Remarkably, the process does not include "saying stuff on TV" but involves actually "doing stuff".

(8,387 posts)Yesterday, we talked about abolishing the ability for the court to issue decisions like Roe v. Wade in the first place, which you supported.
I am asking what AOC is actually doing, in contrast to simply talking about doing.

(46,700 posts)Are you for real? Political activism begins with ideas. From ideas, support gathers. And public opinion can influence the decisions of our elected officials.
It sounds like you're trying to shut down discussions that move this process forward.

(8,387 posts)That is action.
I don't think one guy on DU is going to "shut down discussions that move this process forward".
I'm pretty sure AOC doesn't read DU.

(46,700 posts)The latest: Impeach the Supremes. A must in order to emphasize the fact that too many committed perjury and to show how far they are from representing the majority. Probably easier to do after we win seats after November

But that wasn't the only thing. There was a very long thread that included many of her ideas. Executive Orders were a big point. A thing that I believe is now possible.
Does anyone have a link to the thread that unrolled AOC's long thread?

(8,203 posts)Everyone..and if there are tools., the only way to investigate, a sitting scj and hold them accountable, is through impeachment...then so be it...
I don't know what the outcome would be, like any other proceeding, but we have everything to lose if we do not follow the rule of law...everything after that, would be failure..so let's get after business as unusual..considering we are in unprecedent times. ...everything is on the line...

(32,755 posts)JMHO put more pressure on Roberts! Hes a mealy mouth weasel, that doesnt like what is happening in his court. For starters, its no longer his court
and he knows it. He is very much focused on how he and his court will go down in history.
I think social media and public statements further blaming Roberts and pressuring him for the poor public opinion might convince him resign. The rest of the yahoos are unreachable, so why bother

(2,785 posts)every thing else such as impeaching Supreme Justices or implementing term limits on them is so almost impossible there not even worth discussing. Expanding the court is the only workable path. Will it be easy? No, but it can be done. We just need to elect at least two more Democratic Senators who are willing to get rid of the filibuster and preferably net more than 2 Democratic Senators in November.
