Every election for Governor, every election for state legislator for years to come

will concern reproductive health rights and privacy issues. There will be questions about rape and incest and abortion and questions about the availability of contraception, the legality of gay marriage.

The votes the GOP majority legislatures took about outlawing abortion and gay marriage were taken with the net that Roe v Wade and other decisions provided. These votes were knowingly made as symbolic. Now all of these votes and issues have an immediate impact on their constituency (voters) privacy and how those citizens conduct the most intimate aspects of their lives.

Questions about the state statistics on maternal mortality will become even more visible to the average person. Will the hospitals in red states be able to find enough obstetricians who want to practice in their state?

I am not even writing about the economic impact to states and their foster care system and their child support payment system and their child welfare/protective services systems.

Alito, Thomas et al have unleashed all of this chaos on people’s lives and on state elections not just federal ones. As others have written the dog has caught the car. I prefer the metaphor that the mastodon ,seeking endless water, is now stuck in the tar pit. It will injure and maim those unfortunate enough to suffer its rage as it tries to escape but make no mistake it is stuck.

Rather abortions will be legal or illegal in any given State depends on which party controls the State Government at any given time. Could roll back and forth from legal to illegal indefinitely. Not exactly a stable situation.
