(714 posts)They've used abortion as a wedge issue to drum up donations for so long, what happens when they've gotten there?
Is maintaining the ban good enough? Does going after contraception and gay marriage work?
They might. I don't know. Feel like we're truly in unknown territory. Scary unknown territory.
Whatever the case, shouldn't let our guards down no matter what.

(18,629 posts)Might even be right. The coalition on the Right that wanted to overturn Roe was always composed of strange bedfellows.
But certain points argue against this interpretation. The first being that the religious fundamentalists really are a bunch of opportunists with no moral compass at all, and so the thought of them suddenly looking with loathing on the monsters they're in bed with is a fantasy.
Even if this were not the case, power intoxicates. A segment of the population that has long felt disempowered or even persecuted has, in their view, won the most important victory in their program. Why would they give up on the allies that made it possible?
As for Mich and the GOP, they never had a program except saying "No" to anything proposed by Democrats, and this ruling is not going to change that.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
