I love the company I work for, but they're idiots

Someone had the brilliant idea of a all company event in Las Vegas. We are a 100% remote company. I don't even think we have a real office, anyway. At last count 12 have covid and in addition their family members now. Might not sound like a lot, but the incubation period is at peak now and that's over 10% of the work force.
I was the smart one, I asked, s it mandatory? No? , ok you guys enjoy Vegas.
But now my team is down to me.. So I get all the work. Idiots.

Not only did you get to stay home, and miss a good time, but like you said, now your workload has increased, while they stay home with paid leave for a few days.

But at least you were the smart one, by dodging the covid bullet.

ago after the Y2K bust of the early 2000's.

I know my story has nothing to do with Covid or acting responsibly during the pandemic but I do think it is a similar mindset. Poor management which sometimes leads to business failure.

We would have these very expensive "team building" trips over and over....balloon rides at Pikes Peak, week long trips to San Francisco, Party boxes at Professional Baseball games, Vegas, the list goes on and on.

Instead of being frugal and spending our money wisely and setting a good example for the worker bees who actually are the face of the company to our customers we had a leadership team that was more interested in fluff that running the business. Some people are like that - sadly in our case we were merged with another company when times got hard and thousands of people were furloughed.

IMO - it is poor management and in many cases a lot of these folks have "golden parachutes" so that anything that happens it does not affect them.
