Do you consider the Supreme Court legitimate?

An argument could be made that they are not.

Mitch McConnell and the Republicans held up Obama's pick for the Court and instead, put a Federalist Society pick in his place. Merrick Garland was going to be the next Justice of the Supreme Court. McConnell argued that we were too close to the next election to have a pick from Obama.

Then when Anthony Kennedy resigned, the Republicans got another pick.

When Ruth Bader Ginsburg died, we were already into the election season, but that did not seem to matter to McConnell. He didn't mind being called a lying hypocrite.

On top of it all, we had the Republican picks lie about over-turning Roe under the guise of "precedent". It was dishonest all the way around.

So, I think it could be argued that they are not a legitimate Court.

we think they are illegitimate, there is but one way to get rid of them...impeachment in the House followed by conviction in the Senate...one would need a super majority. We don't have one and are unlikely to get one.

that they have lost the confidence and trust of a whole lot of people - now, apparently a majority. If litigants and others with an interest in the outcome of a case can't trust that a court will consider the matter without partisan motives and will decide it on the basis of a fair and neutral application of the law, what good is the court at all? Why even have a Supreme Court?

Jun 2022

And before I saw your post I was thinking about how illegitimate the SCOTUS is….here is why I think it’s illegitimate

1. Robert’s and Alito were appointed by Bush who lost the popular vote and the only reason he won was due to the SCOTUS stopping the recount in Florida…yes, technically they were appointed during his second term, but without a first term he doesn’t get a second term

2. Trump lost the popular vote and was able to appoint three justices in only one term…all three are illegitimate but Gorsuch and Barrett even more so due to Mitch McConnell not allowing Obama to appoint Garland based on his “election year” rule and then making up another “election year” rule to get Barrett confirmed

3. The senators who confirmed these judges represent states with less population compared to the senators who opposed their nomination

Several of them lied about their intentions against Roe v. Wade, even when asked directly.

One of them probably participated in the attempted coup on J6.

One of them announced his interest in overturning long settled law that will affect millions.

One of them probably works for Trump through Eastman.

The head of the Court is sitting on his ass while his Justices are running amok.
