This past Friday, the Supreme Court voted five to four in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade. This landmark court decision from 1973 established the constitutional right to abortion. Now, individual states will get to decide whether or not they will allow abortion.
People across the country are experiencing mixed feelings about this perplexing court ruling. However, many people, including the justices who voted in favor of overturning the courts previous ruling on the matter, are not thinking about the way in which this decision will impact the millions of American women and people with a uterus who live with chronic health conditions.

1. The Transplant Recipients Whose Medications Make Pregnancy Problematic
Although it is possible for a transplant recipient to get pregnant and carry a baby to term, there are many potential complications. First and foremost, many anti-rejection medications can cause birth defects that would make life unsustainable for the fetus. They can also build up to toxic levels in the fetus bloodstream, which can lead to other complications.

2. The People Whose Autoimmune Disorder Could Cause Complications
Many autoimmune disorders cause your immune system to attack healthy tissue. This means that a pre-existing autoimmune disorder can interfere with the pregnancy by harming the fetus. Even if the autoimmune disorder allows the pregnancy to continue, the mothers antibodies can enter the fetuss system and disrupt its development and growth.

(9,895 posts)The GOP was exposed long ago as a hateful party of zealots and power mad charlatans.
My entire adult life - from 1992 on:
1993 - Universal Healthcare denied
1997 - Clinton vs. GOP and Whitewater, then Lewinsky
2000 Bush v. Gore - stolen presidency
9/11 - Patriot Act, "we do they hate America?", Flag pins and Freedom Fries
2004 Ohio
Birtherism (quiet part sort of maintained racism)
2008 Obamacare negotiated with both arms tied
2010 Tea Party Racism
Scalia dies on the bench
2015 Garland seat on SCOTUS - stolen
2016 disaster
Overt Racism and Hate
RBG dies on the bench
Comey-Barrett seat on SCOTUS - ram rod
2020 Insurrection and BS
This is insane. One of the two major parties checked out of governing years ago, and checked out of caring DEACDES ago.
This is not a problem that can be fixed under our existing limits and 'rules'.
New SCOTUS
New Seanate rules
Old Voting Rights returned and expanded
Restore Roe
Retain our rights
I claim the name "Restored States of America", because this place has not been united since 2000...

(115,693 posts)since birth control isn't totally foolproof; and they also need to be sure they don't get raped, meaning they shouldn't ever go outside again or let a man in their house. That way they won't have to worry about an unplanned pregnancy, which would be their fault anyhow.
which I hope isn't necessary but just in case.

(31,998 posts)Just give your baby away if you dont want it! Is NOT, I repeat, NOT a solution!
Pregnancy and childbirth can traumatize even a perfectly healthy womans body. I had 3 of them so I know what its like.
Its infuriating these chowderheaded morons think pregnancy is easy peasy and just take your baby to the fire department is any kind of solution. GAH!

(8,380 posts)One of our daughters and her husband have a baby girl, the light of our lives. Theyve been on the fence about having a second child for many reasons. Now today she told me that her husband is terrified of going through another pregnancy in case something goes wrong.
Youngest daughter and her husband are starting a family and now shes worried about her health and safety.
We live in Virginia and so far they would have options. I told both of them that I would drive them anywhere if they ever need abortion care.
Its not just affecting people who dont want pregnancies, its now affecting people who do.

(31,998 posts)Yes these scenarios are all too frightening. And I curse these lying, cruel misogynists on the SCOTUS for putting women like these in grave danger.
But no woman should have to carry a pregnancy to term if she doesnt want to. No justification should be needed.
