Go ahead and explain, in detail, how a west coast secession would be implemented-

Explain how:
Social Security would be sorted out
Military bases and equipment would be sorted out
Taxes would be sorted out. Would the IRS shrug and say “gee, those guys aren’t part of the US anymore, we can’t seize their assets”?

Explain how the west coast could secede without the intervention of the US military, a nuclear power.

Show your work.

Washington State has a border with Canada and the rest are all connected.

Could give Canada some good land and people.

Use the State Constitutions for most of the rules. SS is up to the point of succession. Like a divorce, we get the house and the china.

I don't know. Just a thought.

Seems like just a couple of days ago people were mocking Texas republicans for talking about secession, pointing out how stupid (and legally flawed) that idea was.

Supreme Court, 1868.

2010, Scalia: "The answer is clear. If there was any constitutional issue resolved by the Civil War, it is that there is no right to secede."

Secession is sedition, and sedition is codified in Federal law, for just one example. Roe, as we're all aware, is not.

"On the federal level, for example, chapter 115 of title 18 of the U.S. Code Annotated identifies Treason, rebellion, or insurrection, seditious conspiracy, and advocation of the overthrow of the government as criminal offenses punishable by several years of imprisonment and thousands of dollars in fines. These are the types of crimes that can be charged against persons who attempt to secede from the United States."

if not ..

It's a really dumb idea in Texas, and ..
It doesn't really wear any better ..
Particularly among people who tend to look upon the Stars and Bars and rednecks, as just ever so slightly backwards.

Just like it took for the 13 American colonies to separate from the British Empire.

Eventually it will be easy when the rest of the country naturally falls apart like Yugoslavia, IMO.

NO empire lasts forever.

conservative for generations. Just look at the electoral math without those Senators/Representatives/EC votes - not pretty for the remaining Democrats in the USA. Plus there is no mechanism for states to leave the union so it is a moot point.

A more realistic example would be Scotland leaving the UK. The remaining UK would be VASTLY more conservative then now and this may actually happen in the relatively short term.

OR, WA, CA, aren't going anywhere! We are staying and supporting reproductive care, with every fiber of our being. We are transporting people to our states who need safe reproductive care! Seriously, what the heck are you even talking about? PNW states joined and passed legislation, to ensure reproductive rights. PNW isn't going anywhere, we will be here to continue aid in reproductive health, and protest draconian laws.

Anyone who thinks for one second, or is promoting my beautiful native state of Oregon, should or would secede, has more than another thing coming.

THOSE ilk need to stop. Oregon is a safe harbor state. As is CA and WA. Stop trying to undermine our help, because that's what you are doing! Donate to WA, OR, CA, enabling people to get an abortion in our states. STOP with suggestions of secession. WE'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE! YOU'RE STUCK WITH US!! Hate that? Tough shit, we'll still be fighting for control over our bodies, while you're still fuckin around with secession. Folks in the bs secession lane, WERE NEVER AN ALLY.
