The decision to hold the hearing today was due to a combination of factors for the Jan. 6 House select committee, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. Once the committee knew former Mark Meadows aide Cassidy Hutchinson was willing to testify publicly, the committee did not want to risk waiting and her backing out. In addition, there was an overriding concern about security, which has been a factor for others including members themselves who face threats over their roles on the committee.
The committee also suggested in its announcement that there is new evidence to consider.
Sources also observed that Hutchinsons willingness to testify publicly could be a powerful incentive for other witnesses to come forward.
Hutchinsons posture with the committee changed dramatically when she recently switched attorneys, a source familiar with the planning for todays hearing told CNN. She had been forthcoming with the committee previously, but she became much more willing to cooperate and provide the committee with new information that had not previously been heard in just the last few weeks.
Hutchinsons new insight was a tightly held secret, even within the committee. Sources said only a small group of members were kept apprised of the new information she was providing. Early this week, the committee decided that it needed to get the information out sooner rather than later. Members were concerned about Hutchinsons security and the chance that she might become reluctant to testify if they waited until after July 4 to make her testimony public.
Some members of the committee were not made fully aware of the information she was prepared to testify to until today.

(21,304 posts)how long the hearing will be? If it's 2 hours, it's going to leave a mark on people.

(9,760 posts)from R to D and help pass Biden's agenda and help Ds not just keep, but increase their control of Congress. That Bowers dude from AZ, whose family has been harassed & threatened because he didn't support TFG's Big Lie, says he'd vote for TFG again. These people don't seem to fully understand the danger Republican power poses to our nation.

(9,760 posts)because, in my scenario, she must "help pass Biden's agenda."
Obviously, it's a fantasy scenario. But it shouldn't be. If she wants hold TFG accountable and bar him from being in a position in which he can have another bash at a coup, she should do everything in her power to accomplish that. Helping Dems & Biden pass popular legislation could do that.

(571 posts)...that she ever did "the wrong thing".
This is a very young person who has probably submarined her career as far as D.C. is concerned. The fact that she's is so young might be why so would do this. She showed more courage today than Trump or any of his minions, including the rich ones who should have balls of steel because they have almost nothing to lose.

but she appears to understand the difference between right and wrong.

According to Chuck Rosenberg, there is an admission of guilt here. The DoJ and the FBI are listening.

(5,840 posts)... is that the committee was likely afraid the orange motherfucker would once again obstruct justice by threatening her via witness tampering. Or maybe he already had done it and they were afraid she'd succumb.
It isn't a coincidence that they ended today's hearing with examples of witness tampering.

Every BBQ in America will be the scene of a FOODFIGHT. Families will chew the fat over this revelation. MAGA relatives will not be able to stop the rest of us smirking, snarking, bringing it up, etc. No yelling at the majority of the family "NO POLITICS." Funny how only the MAGA bro-in-law who was all TRUMP 24/7 awhile back won't even let us say anything now.
I look forward to the firework display this year.
