I don't fucking care that they have weapons. They're not here to hurt me. Take the fucking mags away. Let my people in. They can march to the Capitol from here. Let the people in. Take the fucking mags away."

NEW: Jan. 6 committee obtained National Security Council staff chatlog, which shows that up to 10mins before rioters breached the Capitol at 12:57p ET, Trump was still pushing to march to the Capitol.

...Cassidy Hutchinson testifies that Trump wanted to go to the Capitol after the speech, despite it being breached Im the fucking President, take me up to the Capitol now and when told no, reached to grab the steering wheel.

Hutchinson: "I remember a few different ideas being discussed between Mark [Meadows] and Scott Perry...between Mark and Giuliani...there were discussions about [Trump] having another speech outside of the Capitol...and about his going into the House Chamber at one point."Harry Litman @harrylitman 1m
So Trump is ready to grab the wheel and choke people to go to Capitol. Can you imagine what he had in mind?? Walking onto the floor with 100s of armed thugs behind him??

Throwing plates and grabbing steering wheels is one thing. But saying out loud that he wanted to lead armed people - whom he noted werent there to hurt *him* - to the Capitol to stop the certification of the election he lost is quite another.

(25,464 posts)In the real world, that was never going to happen.
That's what makes all of this so pointless and a bit mind-boggling. The election was *never* going to be overturned, regardless of what happened. There was no mechanism by which he was going to remain president. He floated the idea of martial law and even Rudy refused to go along with it.

(85,986 posts)...even if police had let him into the chamber he'd just be standing there like a buffon, maybe bellowing something absurd as his armed hillbilly band spilled in around him and ignited the House into something lethal, but resembling a John Belushi Animal House food fight.
