"BALLS" are no longer the only appropriate metaphor for strength.

I am watching Liz Cheney freely sacrifice her political career in an attempt to do the right thing (and even though I agree with her about virtually nothing politically, I have to admire her commitment to the Constitution, and her fortitude in its defense).

Then today, I saw a 25 year old former White House staffer named Cassidy Hutchinson willingly expose herself to the certain calumny and abuse that will be forthcoming from a former President of the United States, accompanied by his legion of frequently violent acolytes, for the offense of simply speaking the truth. Regardless, she unflinchingly did so.

I have been under enemy fire, facing individuals manifestly dedicating to punching my ticket. But I was surrounded by brothers-in-arms. and we did our best to provide covering fire.

This young woman was all by herself, and before she had even left the stand, a former President had attacked her, and the cultists are already piling on, replete with death threats directed at her and her family.
She knew it would happen, and she still did her duty.

So fuck "balls". Those women have OVARIES!

President Joe might want to consider putting Ms Hutchinson in the witness protection program. The cowards from the other side will surely pursue her relentlessly. And of course they will not identify themselves either.

Edit to add: And I admire Liz Cheney for doing what is right.

Be more thrilled woth Liz Cheney and Cassidy's performance and guts. I'm a life long democrat and women's advocate and nothing I like better than seeing a woman stand up to that despicable bully on so many levels.

Ovaries are deep. Ovaries carry eggs that have been with them since the birth of the being they reside in.

it's ridiculous to use them as a metaphor for strength, never mind the sexist notion a male body part is required for courage - it makes me cringe to see it constantly used on DU

I'm inordinately fond of them, and they've provided me with great pleasure over the years, but i'll continue to do my part in an attempt to change the particular narrative that they're somehow emblematic of toughness.

I knew one woman, everything was "He's got balls!" And it wasn't an expression of admiration or strength, it was an epithet of "Who does he think HE is????!!!"

I thought it very uncommon way back. Maybe not so much today.
