(23,442 posts). . .but I was an election inspector (poll worker) for the NY primary elections and I was incommunicado all day and night.
But I'm catching up. The Lincoln Project had the hearings in total yesterday on YouTube, so I've watched it.

(20,202 posts)We need all the Democrats we can get to keep an eye on those right-wing zealots.

(23,442 posts)"Poll workers" ("election inspectors" in NY) get up before dawn to get to the polling site 1 hour before polls open to set up everything (voting machine, poll roster iPad, ballots and other documents, etc.) through a checklist involving recording numbers and breaking seals.
We're the ones behind that desk when you come up to get signed in to get your ballot. We check to make sure everything's on the up-and-up and we ensure that ballots are fed properly through the machine with no snags. We ask the voter to stay put a few seconds until the machine says "Ballot Successfully Cast", then we give them a sticker (if they wish) saying "I Voted"
We may get visits from poll-watchers, who must show ID's.
And when polls close, we have to close shop (again, through a checklist and involving recording numbers and inserting seals) and call in results to election boards
Before doing all this, we have to be trained, take/pass the exam and swear the oath of office. and it's good for only one year. All of us who do this must get trained next year.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I would ask that more and more of us (especially younger people) should do this, even if it's just for a year or two: You'll get an education in the political and voting process that you cannot get in a classroom or online video.
And you'll do your part to ensure free and fair elections.

(20,202 posts)To hell with you then.
JUST KIDDING!
Whether you're paid or a volunteer, you're doing your part to make sure we have free and fair elections.
Thanks again. 😊
