Last day of summer school

Today was the last day I teach summer school.

This morning, I got a call regarding a student I had in my class all this past year. It was her mother calling to tell me that my student had been the victim of a shooting. She had gone to the store with a friend late evening. She didn't even make it to the hospital.

I'm so sick of the violence. Times like these make me wish I was an ex-pat instead of living inside a shooting gallery.

1. That's so awful... I'm so sorry

It's bad enough hearing about it, it must be horrific for you to have known the girl and cared about her and to find out that her life was cut so short so unnecessarily... I cannot begin to fathom what that's like for her family. It's the kind of thing that should be front-page news everywhere, but isn't. It's just the way it is in America now. And the cost in lives is very real.

I am so sick of what is happening in our country and the supreme court just keeps making it worse.
