John Wood, former January 6 committee investigator, launches independent Senate bid in Missouri

CNN

(CNN)John Wood, a former senior investigator for the House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, launched on Wednesday a Senate campaign in Missouri as an independent, calling for a "commonsense alternative" to the field of Republican and Democratic candidates.

"Missouri voters deserve better than the divisive, extreme choices they are being given by the two major parties in this race," Wood said in a statement.

"Missouri deserves better. Missouri needs another option," Wood added. "Missouri is at a crossroads, and my candidacy offers a commonsense alternative to the crazy extremes both parties are offering in this race."

Independent candidates have typically struggled to gain support, but Wood, who calls himself a "conservative" and "life-long" Republican, could face a unique situation in the red state if former Gov. Eric Greitens wins the GOP Senate nomination.

… Republican. If he attracts the non-Тяцмp wing, that could bite into the Republican base in a big way. I don’t see many Dems voting for him. Most Dems don’t really view the Dem platform as extreme.

Is not common sense.

I don't see him dividing the anti-Republican vote as much as the Republican/conservative vote. I would hope that Dems wouldn't vote for a life-long conservative Republican. Independents may not, either.
