Biden administration reaches agreement to purchase 105 million doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine

https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/29/politics/pfizer-vaccine-biden-purchase/index.html

(CNN)The Biden administration has reached an agreement to purchase 105 million doses of Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine, the US Department of Health and Human Services announced Wednesday.

The agreement, set for fall vaccinations, includes "options for up to 300 million doses," the agency said in a news release, and adds up to a $3.2 billion contract.

Snip

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the federal Covid-19 response, has warned that the US is likely to face an increase in cases in the fall, and US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy said on CNN's "New Day" last week that the possibility of another booster shot for the broader population in the fall is under discussion.

More at link, including romney complaining that Joe's team diverted funds to make this critical purchase. Maybe the 47% want vaccines?

Biden-Harris Administration secures 105 million doses of Pfizer’s latest COVID-19 vaccine for fall vaccination campaign

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), in collaboration with the Department of Defense, today announced an agreement to purchase 105 million doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for a fall vaccination campaign, with options for up to 300 million doses. The contract announcement follows a June 28 meeting of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee meeting, which recommended the inclusion of an Omicron component for COVID-19 booster vaccines in the U.S.

“Over the past 18 months, we have procured and delivered more than 750 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine nationwide, contributing to two-thirds of American adults being fully vaccinated,” said HHS Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) Dawn O’Connell. “We look forward to taking delivery of these new variant-specific vaccines and working with state and local health departments, pharmacies, health care providers, federally qualified health centers, and other partners to make them available in communities around the country this fall.”

FDA (both VRBPAC and Commissioner) gave the full go-ahead this week and once CDC's ACIP & Director give the okay, they'll be approved for use this fall.

It's "tourist season" in my neck-of-the-woods and I see license plates from all over the country whenever I venture out - not to mention the crowds packing the sidewalks whenever I drive up North (Lake George).

The reason we got vaccinated was so we could go back to normal. If the virus drastically changes and the vaccine no longer protects us from SERIOUS disease, then we will need to revisit masks and distancing. But for those of us who got vaccinated, we did it so we could eventually get back to a more or less normal state. I am not going to sacrifice another year because some MAGAT moron refuses to get vaccinated and is because of that still getting sick and dying. At this point, I regard a Republican dying from Covid as a positive outcome.
