On Monday, June 27th, the heavily conservative SCOTUS ruled that high school football coach, Joe Kennedy, had the constitutional right to pray in the middle of the 50 yard line of the football field after games. This was at a public school where the wall of separation between church and state, long a bulwark against the insinuation of religion into the secular workings of society, is being eroded by self-proclaimed ‘Christians’ who are quite keen to groom the next generation into a brand of Christianity that is markedly ‘un-Christian’. Perhaps if these ‘Christians’ bothered to read their Bibles, they would know that they aren’t supposed to take pictures of themselves praying and plastering them all over the internet… let alone doing so in front of an entire arena full of people. That’s not ‘practicing religion’, that’s advertising.

Jesus tells people to go into their rooms to pray. I believe an older version said closet rather than room. In other words, do it in private.

Matthew was all about Christian behavior and how it related to your effectiveness as a Christian and the rewards built up in Heaven. A part of the Old Testament says if you cause a miscarriage, you pay compensation. That's it. There is scripture that capital punishment is bad. "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone."

I fucking hate showy religion. If you have to make a big show of it, you have no legitimacy. It's counter to what is actually taught.
