More details on the Biden-McConnell deal for that Kentucky judgeship

A Repub district court judge in KY is stepping down as part of the deal and will be replaced by another Repub. Biden will then be able to name a Dem candidate for US Attorney in KY who will serve the Justice Department.

The judge receives a lifetime appointment once confirmed.

The US Attorney serves only as long as a Democrat holds the White House. If a Republican is elected President, that attorney will be fired and replaced by a Republican.

Does this sound like a good deal to you?

I don't even think we can trust the Turtle even if he promised his soul as collateral. He sold that to Satan long ago.

Throw in the absolutely bonkers notion McConnell can be trusted and it's a shit stew.

There will someone who block the US Atty, and then Mitch will say, "He went rogue, I couldn't stop him."

I thought it was to stop blocking Federal judge appointments, which I could maybe see, but this is so lopsided. Biden should be able to pick anyone within reason for both posts. I hope this does not happen.

What is the point in giving a hostile judge a lifetime appointment in order to get US Attorneys for possibly only the remaining term of Biden. Plus would not be surprised that McConnel approved the potential US Attorneys for Kentucky in any case.

The Democratic party needs to come up with a better method to deal with the black hole that is McConnell.

Looks to me that this plan is outright enabling to McConnell and playing right into the hands of the GOP Christo-fascists.

The current occupant of the seat being vacated is a Bush appointee -- unlikely that she's all that liberal. There are six judges on the Eastern District of Kentucky - all of them currently are Trump or GW Bush appointees. So it goes from a court where a republican is certain to be assigned a case to a court in which ....a republican is certain to be assigned a case.

Moreover, the Eastern District of KY is part of the Sixth Circuit -- any case decided by the District Court would be appealed to the Sixth Circuit and that court is solidly in Republican hands: its sixteen judges include 10 republican appointees: 6 Trump Judges 4 GW Bush judges. The six Democrats include 3 Clinton appointees, 2 Obama appointees and one Biden appointee. That line up isn't impacted by the deal with McConnell. So, in the end, if a Democrat was appointed to the District Court spot, that judge would only have a one in six chance of hearing any particular case and the odds of that judge's decisions being reversed by the appeals court would be very high.
