The Republicans ban on abortions are doomed to fail,

Just like what happened years ago when there was a ban. There were more abortions done under the ban with backroom clinics, organized criminals taking advantage of the situation. Then you had doctors in nicer hospitals who were well paid doing them there.

Now you'll have organized criminals dealing different kinds of abortion pills , plus backroom clinics, and doctors for the right price doing them. Also places just outside the country will become popular for some to go to.

The ban will fail , and the ban will cause the GOP to lose elections, and Democrats will be voted into office with record numbers of voters tuning out. I hope those Justices get exposed for taking dirty money for votes, and bribes they've received. With the present drug war failing badly, the demand for abortion meds will increase greatly, and sales will skyrocket upward, and make some people very rich dealing them.

Will make getting an abortion an unpleasant, expensive, dangerous thing to do.

This delights the anti-abortion goons because they think any woman who has an abortion should be punished.

8. I believe part of it is the loss of male privilege and importance.

Certainly, there’s also a lot of religious nonsense going on, but with reproductive control, women have made great strides economically in the past decades. Today women outnumber men in law school, in medical school, and in completion of college. College-educated women are less likely to date or marry uneducated men, and they don’t need, or want, to rely on men to take care of them financially. Less educated men, and women, threatened by the economic success and independence of educated women, need to force them back into subservience to make themselves more important. One way to do that is to take away their reproductive choices and force them to have unwanted children, thus curtailing their ability to compete with men in the workplace.

Men on the religious right especially believe in the patriarchy of the Old Testament and think these uppity women who have sex without being married or if married refuse to have children need to be taught a lesson and put back in their place. Trump was their ideal of a real man—someone who bullied others, sexually assaulted women, and made everyone afraid to displease him for fear of his retaliation.

7. they will pay a very high price for this decision

Yes, the ban will fail. And yes, as posts upthread state, it will make getting an abortion even more unpleasant, forcing women to travel to another state, and yes, it punishes women for some unknown sick reason.

There is a price attached to this:

First, it will be a massive repudiation of a SC ruling. Women have already organized to help each other. States like mine and NY have now established funds to help women afford abortions. These funds did not exist before this foolish ruling. Consequently you have vast numbers of people collaborating to thwart a legal ruling.

Our states have enacted laws that protect the woman's privacy should she come to NY or NJ for an abortion. They will provide no information to a Texas or a Louisiana. There will be no cooperation between states to "punish" a woman who comes here for this procedure.

So we have a fundamental dismissal of the law by at least half the population. That is a high price to pay. Once that precedent is established, it will be hard to re-establish.

In addition, we have to remember that the SC has no means of enforcing its rulings. It depends on the LEOs, and civil/criminal court system. Already 80 prosecuting attorneys have said they will not enforce this ruling.

Second, it absolutely will work against republicans in the election. People will not forget; in fact, the dysfunction caused by this ruling is only beginning to cause chaos. This will get worse over time. An example is the 10-year old girl that we heard about today. How many stories like that will come out?

I haven't yet read it, but The New Yorker has just published an article called "The Dobbs Decision Has Unleashed Legal Chaos for Doctors and Patients."

Already we have seen a post here that questions what will happen during an ectopic pregnancy.

What outrage there will be when the first woman dies as a result of the confusion and chaos caused by this ruling.

SC rulings are supposed to take into consideration social stability. They have rocked the world of women's healthcare with this decision. They have completely disregarded social stability.

Above are just two points. I'll bet I could think of more if it weren't five a.m.
