How do we persuade non-Trump Republicans...

… to form a new party?

If they did, Democrats and the new party could form a kind of coalition government in the Senate. That would be far from ideal. But it could keep the Trumpists from controlling the body, even if they do well in November.

They would have to start with senators like Mittens, who are not running in 2022.

That’s why it would have to start with Senate Republicans who aren’t running in 2022. The idea for now would be to keep Trumpists from appointing the majority leader and heads of committees.

It’d be harder to persuade House Republicans to get onboard— at least initially.

But, IMO, it makes sense for pro-democracy politicians to join into a marriage of convenience.

They are all going to glom onto whatever nutjob is annointed.

I doubt they will support a third party run. Without party backing, he wouldn't even be on the ballot in enough states to matter.

The best bet is to let them have a mini civil war in their party. That will piss off a bunch of them and maybe they will just not vote for potus.

They will have to battle as the DEMs have had to back to the original DFL days and push out the people who are condoning and/or supporting racism, violence and corruption. Make the Lincoln Party Agenda more the TRUE agenda of the party.

THEN they have their party back and it's back to more civilized disagreements about finding solutions that meet needs of all Americans in a balanced non-partisan fashion.

What we need to do is help take out their internal enemies by prosecuting the Jan 6 group. From pRez down. THEN once convicted, even if they won their seat, they will be removed and replacements found by the saner, more rational Lincoln Party contingent within.

THEN if candidates in the 2 main parties seem unappealing, you can put one of the 3rd party candidates in as first choice.

IF somehow they win, great, 3rd party becomes more mainstream.

IF not, you still get the less of 2 evils from the 2 party system.

BUT still accumulating numbers that show viability for the 3rd parties potential success.

It won't go away without something to replace it.

So get the replacement in place or blow it up from within and make it anew.
