These days I have no desire to go anywhere where there's a crowd. I could care less if I see fireworks these days. I find it interesting that people still think nothing of going to events where there will be huge crowds, not that it can't happen in a smaller crowd either, but when you're in a large crowd you have no idea who you're near.

That goes for Covid and gun nuts.

it isn't too crowded (so I can leave quickly), and I'm fairly certain one of the "greeters" hanging out in the foyer is a cop in civvies.

She posted on Facebook that they made it home safely. It's a sad commentary on today's society that people you know go through things like this.

I drove a bus for a Jewish day camp there for 10 years. I may know someone on the list.

10. I tuned in to both the News and DU only to find yet another mass shooting.

Been spending the day disconnected from everything except for a brief time this morning.

I don't know, but it seems almost - not exactly unexpected - let's put it that way, for a mass shooting to be dominating the headlines on July 4th in America.

Horrifying, as all mass shootings are...just not unexpected.

And that in and of itself is beyond sad.

not what is meant by that phrase, and for damn sure has nothing to do with being free.

The thinking that we're free to come and go as we please - well, unless you're black, brown, a woman, or poor - but we have to accept that we are also at the mercy of those enjoying the "freedom" of the gun is not freedom at all.

We're hostages.

lots of gun humping cowards in the "home of the brave"

and we the people aren't free to go to school, go shopping, go to a parade without fear of the gun humping cowards

But in all fairness, (yet another) mass shooting is news, made more so by the shooter still being at large.

Still, updates can come in while other news is shared and discussed.

They can do both - keep abreast of updates and continue on with other news.

They just don't.
