General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI don't know about Gavin Newsom, but
I love that he took the battle right to Florida, right in FL's RWs' faces. Time to take the gloves off. Use their own playbook. Time to stop playing nice-nice.
More Democrats need to start doing that. And then watch the RWs whine and point fingers.
Fuck 'em all.
Newsom would be a great candidate, certainly a huge physical contrast between obese, decrepit orange man who uses makeup and eye liner, as well as obese dwarf DeSantis.
Yes, DeSantis is an obese dwarf, an evil one.

(19,473 posts)That's only slightly shorter than average. I can't find his weight anywhere. In photos, he looks beefy but not obese.
He's evil, but that's nothing to do with his height or weight.
No way, I live in PBC, and sometime in May I saw him and his entourage exiting a restaurant, he's very short and has actually ballooned to obese levels.

(10,570 posts)According to the latest CDC stats, these are the average heights for U.S. adult men based on age:
Ages 20 to 39: 176.1 centimeters, or roughly 5 feet, 9 inches
Ages 40 to 59: 175.8 centimeters, or roughly 5 feet, 9 inches
Age 60 and older: 173.4 centimeters, or roughly 5 feet, 8 inches
What I'm saying is that I saw him in person, and in no way is he 5'9"

(10,570 posts)To be honest most peoples weight and hight dont match what is on their drivers license or ID as it changes over time. (Both are wrong on mine, I've lost weight and shrunk).

(24,653 posts)I weigh about what he claims and am way more slender. I call BS on his stats.

(41,959 posts)Neither obesity nor dwarfism makes one a bad person or a terrible leader.
Sure, but let's face it, physical appearance is an important factor for politicians.

You were questioning the original post, what they didn't know.
I'll leave it here anyway, in case others haven't seen it.
Here is the actual AD.
This is a news report.

(15,642 posts)with this. He showed his strength -- not simply as a personal characteristic, but also his whole being. We could use more of this. We are the stronger, more durable and persistent ideology in the long run. By comparison, authoritarian governance is transient. We shouldn't be afraid of showing strength by being direct and even confrontational in the face authoritarianism. After all, people are drawn to strength.

(53,998 posts)But essentially it's an ad for 2024. He's not high on my list. I'd like to see Cory Booker take another run. I like Gretchen Whitmer from Michigan. I keep wondering when Chris Murphy (CT) is gonna make a move. I'm also a big fan of Eric Swalwell and Ted Lieu, if you really must have a Californian.
I'm not sure about the efficacy of saying "Come to California" at a time when people are leaving California in droves and the state's housing market is so steep that the streets of SF's biggest cities are clogged with the homeless. But yes, throwing some truth up in Ron DeSantis's face is a great idea.

(9,110 posts)The causes are many. The answers won't come quickly. Supply chain slows down needed materials for building affordable housing. The controversial eminent domain may be a necessity.
He's super bright. He's married to a Republican. (2nd one. 1st being Kimberly "gag" Guilfoyle). He's young and full of vitality. He is sitting on a huge surplus, AND he's an astute businessman with true progressive street cred. Money comes from Getty, not Putin....

(121 posts)Gavin Newsom is the best we have and he must be our candidate in 2022. He is that rare progressive playboy who truly cares about the ninety nine percent and who is utterly unafraid to go toe to toe with the wingnuts without mincing words. He has been a very successful businessman who didn't have to go into politics but did because he truly wanted to make life better for everybody. He is articulate and much smarter than anyone the GOP can come up with, and he is not afraid to be highly aggressive against the extreme Right, something virtually unknown among Democrats, who tend to bring plastic forks to a fight against AK-47s.

(2,412 posts)Gavin Newsome has it all, brains, great communicator, has gravitas, experience and he has done wonderful things for California. I see him as a mature Bobby Kennedy type who will attract voters from across the Democratic Party big tent! He is the one!!!!
