(39,541 posts)Years ago I started to watch it, and it was a little too gory for me.
Maybe I'll try again. I recently got through Breaking Bad. Maybe I've found some tolerance for gore.

(21,368 posts)A gorgeous motion picture that has so many seemingly small but impactful aspects, you will be re-playing them in your mind for years.
Following is one of my favorite clips. nothing gory involved. There is something about it that hits me hard.
Marlon Brando generally did not look like my father, but in this particular movie, his make-up, his mannerisms...he looks EXACTLY like my father, who died when I was young, so perhaps that is a factor on why this movie appeals to me so much.

(5,104 posts)We dont know that, but we pretty much do know what Hillary will do.
So if Trump listens to the people he hires and he has a great cabinet, the scale tips that way for me. We need a hawk right now.
~James Caan quoted in The Jerusalem Post July 22, 2016

(29,464 posts)I think he may have been a tad misogynistic. Very talented actor, though. I don't know who thought of casting him for "Elf", but he absolutely made that movie with his straight man performance where he never dropped character for one second.

(17,541 posts)That was then, this is now and has jack shit to do with this thread.
Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)on a forum for Democrats?
I'm of an entirely different mind on this issue.
MarineCombatEngineer
(17,541 posts)What happened in 2016 is irrelevant to the annoucement of his death, start your own thread of his "dastardly" comments in 2016, but quit trying to hijack the thread.
Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)Caan backed Trump, while attacking HRC, and that is not relevant to his legacy on a forum for Democrats.
MarineCombatEngineer
(17,541 posts)Go start your own thread, this is about the death of a great actor, James Caan, not about what he said in 2016.
Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)You don't get to dictate my speech.
Caan used his fame to support Donald Trump. Full stop.
That is entirely relevant thing to point out on a forum for Democrats.
MarineCombatEngineer
(17,541 posts)and how do you know that his opinion didn't change since 2016?
Quit trying to hijack the thread.
Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)On a forum for Democratic Party loyalists? For real???
Boy do we read that differently.
Good day.
MarineCombatEngineer
(17,541 posts)Good day to you also, and have a great upcoming weekend.
Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)stains the man's legacy or that it is relevant point on a Democratic forum.
I'm kinda shocked you'd think otherwise.
MarineCombatEngineer
(17,541 posts)Kinda blows your statement out of the water.
Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)Caan was a significant actor. He also supported Donald J Trump and attacked Hillary Clinton.
Those are relevant facts on a Democratic forum.
MarineCombatEngineer
(17,541 posts)in case you hadn't noticed, the thread was about his death, not his support in 2016 for the Mango Menace, IOW, you tried to hijack the thread.
You can have the last say, I'm done with you on this particular issue.
Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)on Democratic Underground.
It is an odd objection that James Caan's support got TFG and disrespecting of HRC isn't relevant.
This is not an "acting forum." Nor is this thread in the Lounge.
BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)All that poster did was point out Caan's political beliefs. I don't think he or she rejoiced over the death.
MarineCombatEngineer
(17,541 posts)I guess I'm old school, I find it distasteful, but I'll make an exception to the demise of the Mango Menace, except I won't grave dance, I'll piss dance on his grave.
I didn't say he or she was rejoicing over his death, I just pointed out that this wasn't about his past statements about Trump, it was about his death and the many great movies and tv shows he did.
Have a great day and great upcoming weekend.

(4,488 posts)the fact that he was a good actor doesn't excuse the fact that he supported someone who nearly wrecked the country.
liberal_mama
(1,495 posts)I met him once and he was very nice and gracious. However, now there is the problem of his Trumpery and crazy conservative views. As a result, I haven't been watching any of his movies anymore because his views disgust me. Are you saying that I should just ignore his offensive political views and enjoy his work and separate the artist from his politics?
MarineCombatEngineer
(17,541 posts)on the dastardly statements made by Mr. Caan in 2016 instead of trying to hijack the thread.
I myself, don't judge an actor's accomplishments by their political views, that's a separate issue for me, their politics may suck ass big time, but if they're accomplished actors, as Mr. Caan was, then I'll continue to watch their movies.
Have a great day and upcoming weekend.

I will always love him for Sonny Corleone. I wasn't sure at first but his role has good well the test of time (50 years ago for that one!)

Marsha Mason co stars as the love interest
and fun fact she's the real life woman Neil Simon fell in love with after his wife's death
wonderfully nuanced part for Caan
unlike many of his tough guy roles.

(59,670 posts)Thats just the way the world is. I cant explain how it is that Im friends with Richard Vighuerie, who is the Prince of Darkness politically. Whack Job would be too mild a term.
Though not leading roles, I thought that Jon Voight played a role closest to his political views in Enemy of the State, and Caan in the Schwarzenegger film Eraser. I think it is testimony to the artistry of each that neither role is considered significant for either of them.
