Keep in mind, that she is charged withlarge-scale transportation of drugs
Experts have said any deal to release Griner would almost certainly require an admission of guilt by the American star, regardless of the facts. A source familiar with the strategy said that by pleading guilty, Griner gets that out of the way. And while it could complicate public reaction to her case, one source said the thought was to just get her home however possible and deal with the fallout when she returns.
Ryabkov noted that until Griner's trial is over, "there are no formal or procedural reasons to talk about any further steps.''

(15,940 posts)Its said it would last two months. Plus if she gets time, does she get time served? Itd be pretty unfair to sit in jail six months without it counting towards the total.

Don't know if you're a football fan but QB Aaron Rodgers just got one that it seems you need to be a seventh degree Mason to decipher.

(99,711 posts)That's about twenty miles from where I live. An acquaintance of mine from L A Fitness saw him at a 7-11 with sunglasses on and asked to take a picture with him. He even asked him to take the sunglasses off so people would know it was him and he complied. So he must not be a totally bad guy.

(3,418 posts)I read that if you have the temerity to plead not guilty it makes the judges angry. Then after they find you guilty anyway, they give you a longer sentence.

(21,620 posts)the guilty plea is meaningless. it just allows putin some red meat to throw at his base to say "look at the awful american i'm protecting you from". if he really needs a "win" that bad, let him have it, and hopefully it speeds her return.

(53,840 posts)but the political situation had change since she entered Russia last off season. What with the Russian troop build-up going on for months and war imminent, just a week off, she was seen as a possible future bargaining chip, so she was detained.
Wrong place, wrong time.

(5,124 posts)you are suggesting is true. She was able to get away with it before, then we have a problem on our side. How was BG able to get through US CUSTOMS with contraband multiple times before she got to Russia.?
Shit theyve made me throw out perfume, face cream and food items. Pulled me off the line once to X-ray the cast on my broken arm. Must have fit the description of someone who would fake a broken arm to hide a bomb.
Where did they find the Vape Pens? Was it in checked luggage? You are not allowed to check vape pens. They can be on your person or in your carry on luggage. If they say it was in her checked luggage. Thats a lie. If it was in her carry on, someone or several people need to be fired in US CUSTOMS if she had been getting away with this.

(5,508 posts)Paul Whelan's family is right to call out this administration over this, they sure haven't received any personal attention from the President. Trevor Reed says the first priority should be Whelan since he has been detained longer and was ignored in the last swap.

This is all a diplomatic dance. The Russians know how to play the game and so do our guys.
There's a very good Tom Hanks/Mark Rylance/Steven Spielberg movie from a few years ago that demonstrates this entire process. Check out Bridge of Spies 2015.
