where to steer the Ship of State, but also want a detailed trip plan which includes the exact routes, running times and turns. And, then we somehow feel justified in criticizing any variation from what was "promised". I think the best word for this is "nuts".
To state what should be obvious, the Trump regime's insistence that "being President" was a simple and straightforward job if only you were "strong" and "smart" like tfg was utter nonsense. He thought the job was simple because he was.
We cannot begin to know or understand all of the problems great and small that daily demand that Joe "do something". Each alternative often has possible consequences of which we are blissfully ignorant. And, sadly, there are vile and traitorous opponents ready to flood the news cycle with scathing criticisms of ANYTHING he says or does.
President Biden wants to take us where we want to go. He is a strong, competent and decent man. Let's trust him to pick his way through the shoals and shallows we can't see.
(In anticipation of some of the predictable responses, no, I am not suggesting we never question or criticize. I'm saying that when he gives a fiery speech with which all here SHOULD agree---as he did yesterday---our first reaction should not be "too little too late" unless we can offer a credible and realistic alternative. That's my opinion. I'm sure some will disagree. )

(4,698 posts)Must we then censor ourselves when we support a different course than the Presidents?

(54,281 posts)But I would keep to respectful, reasoned responses. Bernie said is not one of them. Spell it out with calm, logic and facts, leave the slogans at home, and I doubt there will be any bashing, although I have been wrong about that on occasion, too. Nothing is absolute.

(5,125 posts)This course of action is GOOD, AND we also need to remember to do X, Y, Z
So we begin to BUILD together rather than tear apart any progress.
We don't have time to question every decision.
OR I may not agree, HOWEVER I support the President in general BECAUSE he is a HUGE step up from the Outlaw Alternative.
Just remember EVERY TIME we take over from the RETHUGS they have left SUCH A MESS that so much time is spent in clean up before any real work can begin. It's like expecting a parade in the middle of hurricane aftermath. A parade is a good thing. A reasonable objective. However, until the road is rebuilt, it has no where to be, no where to go.

(5,125 posts)I've been listening to AM950 and there are many "progressives" there tearing apart DEMs and I am almost wondering if Clear Channel bought them and have turned their shows into "disinformation" sources, it's so bad.
President Joe Biden and all our DEMs are ON the Front Line, taking the bullets along with our school children.
They are digging up the dirt to rebury the Orange One in his own lies.
They are strong enough to have allied with the last remaining Republicans with a shred of Constitutional Conscience.
WE ARE NOT RETHUGS.
We don't automatically PRAISE our leaders because they are golden.
BUT we don't need to do the RETHUGS dirty work and destroy our own either.

(47,260 posts)I can't begin to imagine what it is like to be President and the decisions he/she has to make on a daily basis. There is never a real break, no clocking out for the day, no weekends, and no actual vacations - it truly is a 24/7 job and the President is always on-call. The hardest part is any decision he makes could be very consequential and often there is no 'good choice', just a less bad one. Then he has to live with that choice for the rest of his life.
