During an interview with Gov. Larry Hogan (R-MA), Todd said that charging Trump might be too harsh for "the country."
"I think that's for the Justice Department to decide," Hogan replied.
"Do you think the country can handle prosecuting a former president?" Todd wondered.
"Yeah, I'm not sure they can," Hogan opined. "But I think no man is above the law so if that's where the facts lead, that's what has to happen."

(12,562 posts)handle Chuck Todd much longer? We might put that to the court of public opinion, along with Andrea Mitchell.
I don't know Chuckles, do you think the country (the majority) can handle a political atmosphere where a man who attempted to topple the United States government walks free and clear?
And no, Ms. Mitchell, that is not hearsay.
At least Hogan gives a nod to the rule of law.

(14,060 posts)we need to get rid of all these wushu washy pundits that still prop up the orange lump.
The worst. The false equivalencies he pushes every day in order to look like he's impartial has made. him ineffective and dishonestly out of touch.

(55,144 posts)Akin to prosecuting Roy Cohn, his mentor.
Remember that Cohn was finally taken down by being disbarred. And everyone fled from him when he lost his MoJo.
It will be difficult and painful and perhaps time-consuming. But Trump can be prosecuted.

(4,229 posts)You should wonder if the country can handle not prosecuting Trump, not following the rule of law, not acknowledging the utterly seditious activities he engaged in. For what, Chuck? For the feelings of the snowflakes who cant handle the truth? Are those brain dead idiots to be prioritized in your America? What friggin planet do you live on?

(8,065 posts)No, that is the wrong question.
The country NEEDS it, REQUIRES it to right the wrongs of the recent past!
It would lead to a rebirth of the country's moral code. A psychological refreshment.
Moral men would be able to hold their heads up high and be proud once again, and the others . . . well, they'd be wise to keep their mouths shut!

(10,016 posts)In baseball terms, four balls pitched to a batter gets you onto first base
Ball One - Bill Barr's misrepresentation of the Mueller Report
Ball Two - Impeachment #1 acquittal by the U.S. Senate
Ball Three - Impeachment #2 acquittal by the U.S. Senate
Ball Four - DOJ chooses not to prosecute despite overwhelming evidence of January 6th involvement
IF the latter occurs, TFG is escorted to first base, "exonerated" of any wrongdoing. He and his followers are "justifiably aggrieved" by the witch hunt that Dear Leader was subjected to. What better set-up for a third presidential run. If TFG rounds the bases and "scores" the presidency, he can thank the corrupt system that he refers to so often. Of course, in this particular context, said accusation would be one more confession, but too late. Too late for the country, and too late for democracy, as an autocratic president has proven multiple times to be above the law. The fascist agenda, aided and abetted by a radicalized Supreme Court, can and will proceed full speed ahead. IF the Chuck Todds of the world have their way.

(3,893 posts)For example, not prosecuting could lead to more of the same problems Trump created. We have to get back to the Constitution and the peaceful transfer of power. The only way back is to prosecute those who caused a non- peaceful transfer.

(7,671 posts)The demise of Trump will be fun to watch, at least for a while. There will probably be some ugliness stemmimg from it. I do not believe that it will linger as long as Repugs discover that there is an equally horrific option they can rally behind. They will shell out for a new boat flag and be on their way.
