I am in line to pay and pick up my food... and I hear "boom boom boom" from somewhere behind me in line... and my first thought was not "someone has leftover fireworks from the 4th"... it was "is that a shooter and if so, what should I be doing to get away from the situation..."

I've been conditioned.

If you have any school aged children in your life, ask them. They've been trained . . .

and I doubt they would know what to do if trapped in a line of cars where the only driving option would be to jump the curb and take out some bushes as you drive across the landscape to get to the road. I did put the car into park and ducked down in the drivers seat.

shooting in KCMO last night in a bar/restaurant district. Six shot with one dead. Started as a fight, then someone was shot. Not a whole lot of information coming out right now. This area where it happened gets blocked off on Friday and Saturday nights and people have to walk through magnetometers to get into the area. Guess they need to do it on Sunday nights too.

8. That one hadn't been tabulated as of my post. In fact, of the 388 shooting incidents

in the last 72 hours only 2 qualified as 'mass shootings' with 4 or more victims.

Mass shootings get a lot of coverage as they well should, being horrendous events that affect so many people at one time. However the vast number of shootings (386 of 388) are one or two victims. It is these little noticed incidents of sometimes personal and sometimes incidental violence that must be addressed. So many that, like fender benders, the media doesn't cover them for the tragedy they are.

It's the guns. The vast number of guns. The incredible lethality of the guns.
