Second group - Smart- They do learn from their mistakes
and then the very scarce
Third group - Wise - They learn from other people's mistakes
Pretty sure we are living in the Land of the Stupid and it's unlikely they will learn nothin' from no darn books.

(20,818 posts)the movie 'Idiocracy' was a documentary.
I thought it was a comedic poke at a minority of ignorant Americans. Come to find out there are many, many more ignorant Americans than I originally thought. 😳

They're what's in Brawndo, Brawndo's got what plants crave.
It's like Abbott and Costello doing "Who's on first" over, and over, and over again. Mike Judge said the movie was a horror to get in the can and never thought it would make a ripple in the pond of American movies. He never envisioned the cult classic it's become.
I must have watched it 20 times already, and every once in awhile I'll break out the DVD and watch it again. It's still hilarious each and every time I watch it.

(1,107 posts)as you said, becoming a documentary, almost 500 years ahead of its time. I still laugh when I watch it but inside it hurts a little bit. Who knew that as a culture we are right on the edge of that as a reality.

(23,204 posts)All 4 seasons are on Hulu, but you have to have a subscription. It would be worth it to get a subscription for a couple months and binge-watch it, then cancel.
It can also be purchased on Amazon Prime.

(27,228 posts)Being smug about something that is happening to millions of people but not you is a choice, I guess. Especially after you "told people" by eliminating the people who it actually happens to IRL from your fiction.

(23,204 posts)Somebody probably gave her the mug, and it really does capture the moment. She called it.
I understand her to be someone who cares deeply about womens rights.

(14,757 posts)She is one of the few people alive that could get away with a mug like that, who have written an award winning novel that goes to the heart of the issue of Roe v Wade, written decades ago. You even felt the need to comment with your armchair diagnosis on her perceived arrogance and insensitivity. It keeps the topic alive, and creates a small viral poke at those who want to usher in a new Gilead.
