Wall Street Journal Editorial Board Makes Complete Asses of Themselves

An Abortion Story Too Good to Confirm

Biden told a tale of a 10-year old rape victim that no one can identify.

By The Editorial Board

All kinds of fanciful tales travel far on social media these days, but you don’t expect them to get a hearing at the White House. That’s nonetheless what seems to have happened Friday as President Biden signed an executive order on abortion.

With Vice President Kamala Harris and Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra nearby, Mr. Biden repeated a tale making the rounds on social media in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overrule Roe v. Wade. He said a 10-year-old girl he didn’t identify by name was forced to travel from Ohio to Indiana to have an abortion because Ohio now prohibits abortion after a fetal heartbeat is discovered. The girl had been raped, he said, and Ohio law now includes no abortion exceptions in cases of rape or incest.

Mr. Biden grew agitated as he spoke: “Ten years old. Raped, six weeks pregnant. Already traumatized. Was forced to travel to another state. Imagine being that little girl. Just—I’m serious—just imagine being that little girl.”

Imagine, indeed. The tale is a potent post-Roe tale of woe for those who want to make abortion a voting issue this fall. One problem: There’s no evidence the girl exists. PJ Media’s Megan Fox was first to point this out, and so far no one has been able to identify the girl or where she lives.

(snip)

What we seem to have here is a presidential seal of approval on an unlikely story from a biased source that neatly fits the progressive narrative but can’t be confirmed. The abortion debate is intense and passions run high. But the American people deserve better from their President than an unproven story designed to aggravate those passions.

The above is the first version on the website archive.today, tagged "13 Jul 2022 09:28". The most recent version at this time, tagged "13 Jul 2022 23:39", begins with this note:

Editor’s note: The Columbus Dispatch reported Wednesday, a day after this editorial was published, that a Columbus, Ohio, man has been charged with the rape of a 10-year-old Ohio girl who traveled to Indiana for an abortion. The Dispatch reports that Columbus police were made aware of the pregnancy through a referral to local child services by the girl’s mother on June 22. An editorial correcting the record on the case was published Wednesday evening.

Article cited is NOT PAYWALLED

snip-"It appears President Biden was accurate when he related a story about a 10-year-old Ohio girl who was raped and traveled to Indiana for an abortion. We wondered Tuesday about the case, after no one had confirmed its accuracy or any public report of the crime, though the story had made the media rounds for nearly two weeks.

The Columbus Dispatch reported Wednesday afternoon that Columbus police arrested 27-year-old Gershon Fuentes, who has confessed to the sexual assault. Mr. Fuentes has been charged with rape in the first degree and is being held on $2 million bond. The Dispatch story said police learned of the girl’s pregnancy through a referral by Franklin County Children Services that was made by her mother on June 22.

The Dispatch is part of the USA Today network of papers that includes the Indianapolis Star, which reported on July 1 that the 10-year-old had traveled to Indiana. The Star’s story was based on a single source and provided no other confirmation."

snip-" It’s unusual that no one in law enforcement stepped forward to confirm that the rape referral had been made, especially after the story had gone viral for days on the internet. But we appreciate our obligation to correct the record on the case, which is a terrible one. The best news is that an alleged rapist has been taken off the street."

The WSJ mentions that Ohio AG Yost said his office did not know anything about the pending arrest.
The more RW/GOP establishment knives in the very ambitious and reactionary Yost, the better IMO

It appears????? We wondered?????

So it's just appearances and though we practically called him a liar, we were just wondering out loud because we really didn't believe him. Unlike the million times Trump lied.

Sex with a 10 year old is always rape.

And WSJ thought the police would rush to twitter to 'confirm' the report independent of the legal/judicial process, because it went 'viral'? About a 10 year old? (And when they didn't, WSJ thought that was proof that the crime never happened?)

I suspect that former9thward's site is talking about dead tree, newsprint copies of the paper. I'm certain the number is different for the number of copies read at WSJ.com.

The Wall Street Journal. is printed in several locations throughout the U.S., if I am not mistaken. No doubt the NYT too. You can both delivered to your doorstep all over the DC suburbs. I think those copies are printed in Rockville, Maryland.

During the week, I have to settle for WSJ.com and their Twitter account. I don't have room for any more stuff coming in.

The following technique is legit. You're not cheating anyone. The newspapers are paid by the databases to have their content included. In turn, libraries pay to subscribe to the databases. Finally, you pay to keep the lights on at the library. Money changes hands at every step, except when you sit down to read the newspaper. That step is fare-free.

Sun Feb 13, 2022: How to get around the paywall at national newspapers

Because the Washington Post, like the New York Times and The Wall Street Journal., is a national newspaper, it is almost certainly available on your public library's database. As in, available for free, with no paywall.

You don't have to go to the library. Since you're reading this, you have access to a computer. Log into your account at the library and find the database of newspapers. The Post will be there. Ask your librarian for help if you need it.

{edited to add} The library doesn't have to be open. Its website is running 24/7, so you can log in at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday morning to read the newspaper.

Articles in the Cody, Wyoming, Enterprise, the Fairhope, Alabama, Times, or the Kodiak, Alaska, Daily Mirror might be just a bit harder to find.

I'll keep posting this as many times as I have to.

* Free, in the sense that you pay for it with your taxes. That kind of free.

"[Biden] said a 10-year-old girl he didn’t identify by name..."

Of course he didn't identify a minor child by name. Even WSJ wouldn't identify the child by name if they'd managed to find it through due diligence - and likely they should not have been able to. No one outs a 10-year-old that way, but their insinuation is that the child is made up because no name was involved. Grotesque.

Slipshod reporting, gossip and innuendo are the tools of the alleged pro-life movement's trade. Also violence. And lying. They don't know what they're talking about half the time and the other half they're just making up. They have no medical training or expertise, they don't have even a crude understanding of biology and anatomy, and they fill in their ignorance with cant, the received wisdom of generations of hateful liars.

As appalling and despicable as this episode is, it's only going to get worse. We need to mobilize and engage the majority of our fellow citizens who think that people who can get pregnant are citizens in full, capable of making their own decisions without interference from ignorant knuckleheads who don't care if they live or die.
