I'm one generation removed from Pennsylvania. Both of my parents grew up in Philadelphia, but when Dad was stationed in San Francisco after his stint in the Navy during WWII, Mom figured out that it didn't snow in SF. Nor did it get hot and muggy in the summer.

Therefore, a few years later I was born in San Francisco.

Your best bet is to go to any Mom and Pop shop. Plain old local neighborhood pizza places generally have the best cheese steaks. So, explore the neighborhood around your when you come visit.

If you want some more well-known names:
John's Roast Pork
Jim's on South Street
Dalassandro's

My dad, who LOVED cheese steaks also enjoyed a place outisde the city called Mama's on City Line Ave in Bala Cynwyd.
If you want to visit Dr. Oz in Jersey, there is a place in Camden called Donkey's. I've never been there, but I do know some Ohilly folks that love it.

But, my ultimate recommendation is any neighborhood pizza joint.
