Former President Donald Trump attempted to put distance between himself and the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol attack in an interview this week with New York magazine.
He also tried to separate himself entirely from those who perpetrated the attack in what feels like the last step of the six-part cold and manipulative system made famous by the character Dennis Reynolds in the sitcom Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
While the Jan. 6 House select committee has spent recent weeks laying out its case that Trump inspired, if not directed, the attack, Trump said the actions of his MAGA rioters were their own.
During a conversation with journalist Olivia Nuzzi, Trump actually disputed the fact many who entered the building after he addressed them that morning were even there on his behalf. Nuzzi wrote:

(26,399 posts)didn't pardon them when he still had the chance to back in 2021, and now, he's doing it all over again, abandoning them. When will these idiots ever learn that tRUMP never really cares about them, and only cares about his own fat orange a&&? I suspect that w/ the constantly declining numbers in tRUMP's numbers, that his days of getting tons of favorable news tidbits are over with, and everything now is negative. He might as well get used to it, I suspect that the negative onslaught of bad articles out on him are going to flood the airwaves. As they should, so everyone will be reminded of what a miserable president he was and what a horrible person he truly is.

(28,705 posts)The biggest crowd ever. That is so important to him, even if he has to lie about it.
The mob attacked the Capitol all on their own. Golly-gee, TFG certainly wouldn't incite that! Besides, they weren't all MAGA cultists. The bad stuff must've been outsiders to make him look bad.
Everything is all about TFG. All good & wonderful. If you don't believe him, well, he doesn't give a flying fuck.

(36,826 posts)OTHER HATS, FOLKS!
Nuzzi said Trump disagreed with her after she categorized the riot as a swarm of MAGA hats that stormed the building during the certification of the 2020 election results.
And other hats, Trump said. And other hats. Not just MAGA hats. Other hats. Trump added:
There were a lot of people there that a lot of other people dont want to talk about, but theyre also one of the largest crowds Ive ever spoken to, when I made the speech peacefully, it should be known as peacefully and patriotically but when I made the speech, it was one of the largest crowds Ive ever spoken to.

(75 posts)If theyd succeeded, it would be deemed his doing. But because they failed, he had nothing to do with it. Which is a predictable response.

(82,849 posts)What about this man, the former guy, looks strong to his fanboiz? Over and over, he cuts, he runs, he scribbles out a check and tosses it over his shoulder. But goddam if he looks like the Platonic ideal of a strongman to those gullible dupes.

(11,056 posts)doesn't give a shit about you. You did it all on your own. He didn't tell you to go down to the Capitol and he'd meet you. You dreamt it.
