is the measure of the depth of depravity into which the right has fallen.
That some would insist that child should bear an infant, regardless of risk to her life and the certainty of it destroying her emotionally, is tantamount to total inhumanity.
This is what we now face, as we approach yet another "boring" midterm election. If we dilly-dally around this time, we risk losing it all.
I suggest that unless we make certain to make certain that Republicans lose as many legislative seats both state and federal as possible, we will be participants in the fall of our humanity. I can't imagine something as a symbol that should send us running to the polls than the calls for a 10-year-old girl who has been raped to be forced to carry a fetus to term.
It's a clarion call, folks.

(128,707 posts)But then it turned that it was all true when the guy who raped her (twice) was arrested and confessed. Now what? The reason for discrediting the story was to be able to deny that abortions can be necessary to prevent really terrible consequences - and what's more appalling than a child being raped and becoming pregnant as a result, and then having to give birth to the rapist's child? Their implied theme is that abortions are only desired by slutty adult women who can't keep their legs together and don't want to be responsible for the result, but a raped child didn't fit the narrative so that can't have happened. Well, it did, so the AG (GOP, of course) turned on the doctor who helped her, threatening to prosecute her for failing to file the proper notifications. But of course she did file the reports, so that cigar also exploded in their faces.
So the latest thing they are harrumphing about how these incidents are so incredibly rare that the law shouldn't permit abortions just for those few rare cases. Rare? Turns out that there were 52 reported rapes of children who had to have abortions last year - just in Ohio. That's one a week. And anyhow, why should anyone suffer needlessly just because their situation is "rare"?

Its another sign of the loss of democracy and freedom already taking place in our country.

(12,381 posts)That's 2,500 little girls a year, if Ohio is a reflection of the rest of the country.
There are 20 million 10 to 14 year old girls in the US today but damn that's still an awful number of little girls being forced.

But then, I am inclined reduce the whole conservative problem to moral-malignancy and identity-indolence models.
There is not a one competent to govern for the common good, the commonwealth.

(10,749 posts)Its their 10-year-old niece or daughter or granddaughter, it means nothing to fascists. It really is hard to imagine how some 60 or 70 million Americans have become so evil in such a short period of time. I realize that theyve always been there, but some level of public pressure and decency kept them slithering in the mud. But Trump gave them their freedom and they are using it. Is there a word stronger than evil?

(2,824 posts)only to then insist she attend grade school to be mowed down thereafter with an AR-15 by some demented 18 year old incel while tactically armed and fully armored police officers stand around for over an hour waiting for everyone to bleed out.
The sheer madness and depravity of this is as nauseating as it is infuriating.

That's what psychopaths do when they get one over on you. Watch out for that smile/smirk it means someone else, possibly you, is suffering at the psychoth's hands.
During televised interviews where Susan Smith tried to beg an imaginary black man who took her 2 little boys to return them, she looks down and smirks. It is clear as day, she's getting a kick out of conning everyone. This was right after she had killed the boys.
TFG and Malania do it too. They make that creepy smirk that looks like a snake's smile. But they don't try to hide it.

(9,148 posts)Here is some grassroots activism almost everyone can do to increase midterm turnout:
My friends and I are carrying around pens and sticky notes and/or big mailing labels (things with adhesives that don't cause property damage when removed) and writing messages such as "Defend Choice - Defeat Republicans on 11/8" and On 11-8 Vote Blue or else the GOP will take your right to birth control too. In red states, people are including abortion access website links. We're placing them in public restrooms, highway rest stops, transit stations, shopping malls--any high visibility place. We'd love it if some DU-ers would do the same and spread the idea far and wide on social media. Thank you!

Ignoring is the best they could expect.
If she lived in Texas, they'd be sending bounty hunters after her because she was a rape victim.

Between abusing them for their own warped sexual satisfaction, to letting gun manufacturers make money off their dead bodies, to forcing birth and abuse onto them, to letting them go hungry, to selling them in baby mills, Christian are a horror to children. Don't let them near your kids. They will hurt them.

Question is, will the rest of us vote? Oh, I'll be doing my part calling people, donating, but you know our electorate is pretty apathetic and stupid.
Problem is, if we don't win this next one, it might really be our last. And that's no shit. So...

(1,102 posts)When you step back and think about it, it should not surprise anyone that the "GOP" could not care less about the rape of a 10 year old child. I can remember what it was like before Roe, when Christo-Fascists had full control over the bodies of women, and when bigotry, racial hate and homophobia was openly celebrated out in the heartland.
Look at what the Nazis in Germany did in WWII. Look at what Stalin and Mao did to their citizens, they murdered millions. Do we really think our New American Fascists are any different? They will destroy anyone and anything in their path to power.
